The problem can be from multiple sources. All the solenoids, speed sensors,:PRNDL switch, has to be tested ,and verified in specs and good working condition. These are mounted on the exterior of the trans, and some mounted inside the pan,on top of the valve body.Any of the above systems can cause 3rd gear only symptoms. An internal trans problem, hydraulic or mechanical failure can also cause these symptoms,as well as computer control problems.Mitsubishi's have been known in past years to have somewhat fragile computers. So,all of the systems involved with the trans has to be checked,electrical,hydraulic/mechanical,computer and wiring

Tranmission trouble

The reverse clutch plates are fried/welded together and when you place it in a forward gear, it is in two gears at once. got an overhaul on your hands, my friend.

I have 1996 vw jetta 2.0 and my reverse keep slipping out and will not stay in reverse..would I have to replace my whole transmission? by the way its stick shift

usually a sign that that gear set is starting to go out or has already, standard transmissions CAN be rebuilt, but it's usually easier to have a used working one put in place instead. good luck to you. does it pop out of gear?

When driveing my car down the road the tranmission is in second gear when i am getting ready to go to third gear i push the gas a bit the rev goes to 2 and sits there for a second then the car would lurge...

When was the last time the trans fulid and filter was changed? Sounds like the filter in the trans is dirty. And if left over time will damage the transmission. Transmission fulid and filter should be changed every 35,000 to 45,000 miles. And it could be the shifting module on top of the trans (Netural Park switch)

No reverse sometimes geo metro a/t

The accelator cable is "Y" shaped. one side goes to the carb and the other to the tranmission. If you have the carb.side too tight it will give you the problem that you are having.
