Question about 1997 Chevrolet Malibu

3 Answers

I am trying to find my turn signal flasher to replace it. I also need to know if it has 2 or 3 prongs. I put LED bulbs in the vehicle and the turn signals flash like there is a bulb burnt out, so I was told to buy an LED compatible flasher or a heavy duty flasher.

I have replaced my hazard switch/combination turn signal flasher. National brand spare parts couldn't spec the part out correctly. Bought one from a Chev dealer. Works fine. 10 minute job to change it. Less if you really know what your are doing.

But, my car still has the same problem, the original flasher was still okay. The flasher continues after the turn signal shuts off. And it starts again while driving. The lights aren't flashing - but the switch is clicking. It sometimes shuts off when I jostle the switch. The next thing I will try is replacing the multi-function switch. $195 Cdn at the dealer, $40 at an auto recycler. It's a 97 Malibu - if that is the biggest problem I have this year, it will be the best year this car has had in 11 years.

I would just stick to standard bulbs and save all of the hassle of spending money when it dont need to be because ive had LED bulbs before and i did regret it.

Trouble shoot turn signals 1994 Ford Ranger 2.3 engine

Diane, There are 2 separate flashers on your vehicle, one is for the emergency/4 way lights and one flasher is for the signal lights. It may be worth the couple bucks and replacing the signal flasher as a first step. Recheck bulbs/sockets, fuses/relays, flasher. If all looks good possible signal switch is bad. Remove switch and try to clean contacts or replace switch. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Replacing the turn signal flasher relay. I have installed LED bulbs and get the extremely fast turn signal flashes. I have a relay but can not find where to install it

If its flashing really fast and all lights on the circut are working you may need a heavy duty flasher as to location, depends on vehicle but they are usually close to the under dash fuse panel

Replace turn signal on 98 taurus

Well, it's not really clear what the problem is with your turn signals. If they just aren't flashing, there's a good chance it's caused by one of three things... Either the flasher its self has gone bad, or on most vehicles, if one of the turn signal bulbs have burned out, the signals won't work on that side. Lastly, the simplest cause... The turn signal fuse!
The flasher relay can usually be found either plugged into the fuse block or under the dash on the driver's side. It's usually silver or yellow and is about 1 1/2" round and about 1 1/2" high with two prongs. Just unplug the old one and plug in the new.
Good luck and Happy New Year,
Bill

My Turn Led Signal Can Not Blink

The LED lamps are not plug-in replacements for incandescent ones because they place a much lower load on the flasher.

When failed trun signal bulb, Jeep turning signal is fastly blinking. I changed rear turn signal bulb with LED bulb, but turn signal blinking speed doesn't go to normal, At first couple of seconds it is...

Try replacing with the same bulb type as was failed. Flasher unit isusually reliant on resistence from the bulbs to what speed that side will flash at when powered. Some of these led type have less resistence and that equates to a faster flash speed. That is why when one bulb blows that side will flash faster or may even stay on without flashing. You could even swap the led to the other side( to confirm.Check with the bulb retailer to whether they have those bulbs with a higher rated resistence in led.If this vehicle has leds as standard, you may need to get the correct type from dealer. Hope this helps or get back with findings if it still has fault after replacing bulb.

My turn signals will not blink

Look under the dash, in the fuse box. There is a round silver colored relay, it looks like a plug. Pull it out and take it to your parts store. Ask them for a flasher relay. Part number should be 552 or 550. It should be a two prong or 3 prong flasher.
