This car has no chain! It has a toothed rubber belt for timing belt. It could have broken or the crankshaft toothed pulley (behind the harmonic balancer or main accessory belts pulley) has either broke off teeth or shaved off the timing belt teeth but it still should move under tension. Remove the top black plastic timing belt cover( 2 each 8mm screws or may have Phillips + center). You can see if the belt is on tight or even if it will turn when you try to start. Have someone turn it over while you observe the belt. That is my problem but I haven't gone to the process of taking it all apart yet. Not a fun job and it's expensive! Not only that but since you are replacing the belt one way or the other, there are kits for this engine with new pulleys, belt etc...) Consider replacing water pump if its old or you will be doing the same thing soon to replace the pump! Might as well do it now!

Timing belt or chain could have jump some teeth or fuel regulator could be bad.

Changed the fuel pump on a 2002 Avalon and now it will not start what could it be?

Was it running before you worked on it? If so, double check your work. Any applicable trouble codes?
If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you check for spark at the spark plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also check fuel injector pulse. If you still think it is a fuel issue do you want wiring diagram for fuel pump?

Why wont my 1996 ford explorer start it turns over but wont start

You need to determine whether or not it is getting fuel and spark. It needs both to start. Remove one plug wire and hold it close to the engine while someone cranks it over. There should be spark from the plug wire. If there is spark, you will have a fuel supply issue. Possible fuel pump/relay/wiring/fuel filter/injectors not working to name a few. If no spark, possible crank sensor/ignition module/wiring.

My 2000 Pontiac grand prix stop running the other day. It turns over just fine but it won't fire up could it be anything other than the fuel pump. ( I really don't want to change that)

its pretty simple to check for fuel pressure. If there is no fuel pressure than the next step is to check for power and ground at the pump. if those check out then a new fuel pump should fix the problem.

your engine needs 3 things to run. fuel, spark, and compression. if you have fuel pressure than check for spark. if there is no spark than there could an issue with a crank or cam sensor. If the crank sensor is bad than typically there will be no injector pulse as well. after cranking it over a couple times pull a plug and see if it is wet. if it is you know the crank sensor is working and the fuel pump is working and you have a spark issue. If it is dry than there is a fuel delivery issue (fuel pump/injector/injector pulse/etc.)

there are many things you can check very easily to help narrow down the possibilities.

96 tahoe turns over but wont start 1/2 tank of gas carbs clean gas gets to carb but i got no spark I just change the distributor' coil the MAP sensor new plugs and wires last November and really haven't...

Did you visually check for spark at the spark plugs, engine cranking? Does the dist rotor turn when you crank it? Did you use a gage and check correct fuel pressure? Any applicable trouble codes? To check codes, yourself, at the least, you need an obd2 code reader.

If you have the spider fuel system, that system is noted for problems. No, the fuel system shouldn't cause a no spark. If no rpm signal, that will usually stop the injector pulse along with other issues.

All the light work just wont start

Engine is cranking? Check if the fuel pump is working, fuel pressure right and injectors. Check starter and solenoid. Also ignition switch. If all this its OK, then go to sparkplug, coils.

Car cranks but will not start

Most probably its a low fuel pressure related problem.Get the fuel pressure checked. If its low then this is faulty fuel pump and clogged fuel filter issue.the other possibilities are,-----

A car that cranks over but doesn't start, in many cases will be due to a bad fuel pump, a broken timing belt, an inoperative cam sensor or crank sensor. Also this problems are related to faulty spark plug. Check the spark at spark plugs when you start the car. Do you notice any spark. Actually you should see. If in case there is no spark then it's a spark plug problem. Also the coil pack gives power to spark plug. So check the voltage at coil pack. It will show 12 volt.If there is no voltage noticed at coil pack then its faulty coil pack that has to be replaced. If all the possible options checked out ok then check the car starter. The starter gets power from battery to start the care. If the starter is faulty then it will not let the car to start. Also check and confirm that there is fuel in the car. If it very low fuel then in some cases this causes the problem. Also check and confirm that fuel pump is functioning properly and the fuel filter is not clogged. One of the easiest ways to check for a fuel pump related problem is to spray a little starting fluid into the air intake while trying to start the car. If the car starts momentarily, then there's a good chance the fuel pump is not working or the car is out of gas. You can also listen for the fuel pump's humming sound when the key is first turned on. Also if a inoperative fuel pump is suspected, a good technician will always check to verify there is power and ground being supplied to the pump, to eliminate the possibility of a bad relay or electrical issue. Fuel pressure can be checked with a pressure gage and if there is pressure, pulse can be checked at the fuel injectors in several ways including the most common, with the use of noid lights. If the injectors don't have pulse the engine won't start. ---------- This troubleshooting tips will help you to solve the problem.Thanks.Helpmech.

Car will not roll over in park...starts occassionally then dies within a few seconds, cranks fine...just will not turn over. Purchased new battery, too.

1995 CRYSLER LHS,WONT START AT ALL,TRIED CHANGING SENSORS,FEUL PUMP,COIL PACKS AND COMPUTER BOXES,JUST WONT START?ANY IDEA?

If it is cranking with out turning over I would check the fuel pump and ignition relay, crank and cam sensors.
Basically you need to figure out if you have a spark issue or a fuel issue. (as long as you didn't have a serious overheating problem). One way to help you figure this out is by spraying in some starting fluid while cranking the engine. If it starts you have a fuel problem, if nothing then you have a spark problem (assuming you didn't blow the head gasket from overheating and was running normally before this happened).
Based on what you've already done here are my recommendations:
No spark: check ignition relay
No fuel: check fuel pump relay (aka shutoff relay, aka fuel pump shutoff relay), crank and cam position sensors, fuel filter.
There is also one other possibility, that the timing belt snapped. You would need to remove the timing cover to check this.
