Question about 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 and I am having either electrical problems or a computer problem with it. My dash instrument light go on and off and all the gauges bounce and I have had it to my local dealer and all they did was say it was a comunication problem with the computer and they reset it. Now it is doing it again after only one week. It seems to happen when I have the Air Conditioner running.

The computer does reset it self once I turn off the engine. Now it was working fine today. However, How long will it last? What the Chrysler garage did was us their scanner and reset everthing to the original Manufacters settings. This Jeep was Made in Canada but, is now used in the U.S.A. Is there as short in a relay switch or something? Let me know. Thanks

i have the same problem but mine stays on just about all the time flashing and flickering of and on,if i have anything on it will all go off and come back on as though it has a short or something or a ground wire is touching something, it's driving me crazy!

I am having the same issues. The dealer told me it is an ignition switch problem and it has already been replaced 2 times, I am going for my third this Friday. It is definately something with the ingnition because when it is flashing on and off, if I jiggle the key, it either stops flashing or then the lights just stay on all together. When mine does this the heat turns off and all the gauges die and I have no signals either, a big safety hazard. I would love to know if Chrysler is aware of this and if they are doing anything about it.

Have a 2005 jeep wrangler. The a/c only blows through the defrost. Would that be a vacuum problem or electrical? Any other advice would be helpful as well.

My 06 grand cherokee laredo has a 4x4 emblem on the vehicle, and a traction button on the dash, how do I operate the 4x4?

Your jeep should have full time four wheel drive. To place the transfer case in low range look down to the console towards the rear and you will see a "T" shaped handle. To place it into low range you should stop place the vehicle into park and lift the T handle and in the dash a 4X4 indicator lamp will light up. The traction button on the dash would be used in 4 wheel high mode when you start to experience wheel slippage upon take off from a stopped position. This will give you a little more control. You only need to use the low range for very slow speeds in mud or snow. Otherwise just leave it in high range because it is always using 4 wheel drive. This is a very reliable system which Jeep has refined over the years. Your Grand Cherokee is not designed fro hard core off road use. Hard core off road use will destroy the undercarriage. The Grand Cherokee is more of a luxury soccer mom 4X4 with good road manners, a comfortable ride, and good reliability.
