How to Diagnose a P0135 -Heater
Performance Bank 1 Sensor 1 (GM 3.5L)
January 31, 2012 Updated: October 29, 2014 Written by: Abraham Torres-Arredondo Article Id: 371

image_1.gifIf your check engine light is on and you have a diagnostic trouble code P0135 stored in the PCM's memory... then you've come to the right place to test and troubleshoot the upstream oxygen sensor.
A P0135 DTC says: HO2S Heater Performance Bank 1 Sensor 1... and this means that the PCM (Powertrain Control Module = Fuel Injection Computer) has detected a problem with the front oxygen sensor's heater element or a problem in the heater's circuit (wires).
In this tutorial, I'll show you how to check the oxygen (O2) sensor's heater element and the two circuits that feed it with power (10 to 12 Volts) and ground with a multimeter.
In case you're wondering, where the oxygen (O2) sensor that the code P0135 is accusing of being BAD is... this bad boy is located on the exhaust manifold and before the catalytic converter.

How to Test the O2 Sensor of Bentley Arnage car?

O2 sensor needs to be replaced when you get low gas mileage in car.
So before replacing the sensor it needs to be tested.
The procedure to test O2 sensor is as follows: ---
    1) First drive the vehicle for 15 minutes in normal temperature.
    2) Then Stop the vehicle in park mode and turn the engine off.
    3) You will see primary O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold, the manifold will be very hot to touch so take care.
    4) The function of O2 sensor in the car is to measure the amount of oxygen in car and then send that information to engine to adjust fuel pressure.
    5) Now to measure the O2 sensor reading. Carefully disconnect the wire at the O2 connector, and hook the positive lead of volt meter to the O2 sensor side of the connector and connect the positive lead of volt meter to harness side of the connector.
    6) In the O2 sensor you will notice two black wires that are not used for testing.
    7) Now before beginning the important part of the testing procedure, check out properly that wires of O2 sensor and wires of volt meter are not getting touch to any other metal part or the manifold.
    8) After checked and confirmed. Now start the car and see the voltage in engine idle position.
    9) The reading will go high or go low but the average reading that it should show is 500 mV.
    10) Now let the engine run and with engine running disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose, and plug the hose with your finger.
    11) The 500 mV reading will go to 700-800 mV.now remove the finger the reading will fall low to 300 mV.
    12) But if these readings are not showing properly that indicates the fault in the sensor.
    13) The secondary O2 sensor is located after the catalytic converter. The procedure to measure secondary O2 sensor is exactly the same like how you measured the primary O2 sensor.
    14) The secondary oxygen sensor is located under the car.
    15) Put the car on jack stands on the rack, this will give you proper sensor location in the car.
    16) You can test secondary O2 sensor to conform the fault before replacing the O2 sensor.
    17) The cost of replacing the O2 sensor is near to $100.This cost is for if you do it yourself.
    This will help. Thanks.

I have my engine light on, in my xg300 Hyundai 2001 if i replace the mass air flow sensor and my fuel air metering my light go off, Im a woman trying too fix my car my self pls help tks code...

check engine light will not go out or codes cleared till computer is cleared so if you have set off a code while trying to diagnose it will stay in memory with that in mind

PO171 & 174 are related to bank 2 lean o2 sensor reading high oxygen in exhaust at sensors
PO120 has to do with throttle position sensor input out of range
    PO306 is a misfire in #6 cylinder

in my opinion any miss will cause o2 sensors to read lean because the cyl is in effect a air pump sensors only pick up o2 not the fuel does you engine run rough or hesitate/shaking on acceleration
i would check coil wire and plug for #6 also the injector not working will cause miss also they look ok do compression test on cyl will read 150psi if you find cause of miss you will be able to diagnose lean

with the tps sensor check to see if the connector was disconnected at any time you were testing

basically you need to isolate misfire and fix then have the computer cleared of codes drive car and if engine light comes on then we will go through test procedures for new codes

i hope this helps you to get a few ideals on how to proceed good luck ley me know

My Service Engine Soon light came on about a year ago. I took it into the shop and got that problem fixed but the light stayed on, so I took it to advance auto parts and code tested it and it said that...

There are several types of O2 Sensor codes. There can be "Lean O2 Sensor" codes, "Rich O2 Sensor" codes, "O2 Sensor Slow Response" codes, or "O2sensor Heater Circuit" codes. The specific code that is being set changes the way you must go about diagnosing and repairing the problem. I will say however, that in about 80% of all the O2 Sensor code problems that I have had to diagnose, the O2 Sensor itself was NOT the problem. The O2 Sensor was only reporting a problem that was actually caused elsewhere. O2 Sensors are the final checkpoint in the engine management system. I think of them like a report card. If the O2 Sensors are right, the rest of the engine management system is right. If the O2 Sensors are not right, the rest of the engine management system is probably not right. (Except in the 20% of the cases where the problem is actually being caused by a failed O2 Sensor)

How many o2 sensors are there?....my check engine light has been on for quite some time and thinking of replacing... my truck runs lean...

Your car should have two O2 sensors. One will be located after your catalytic converter. The other one should be located before your catalytic converter somewhere between your headers and your cat. Rarely, on some vehicles, there's a 3rd O2 sensor which is located also somewhere between the catalytic converter and the headers.

Your check engine light may not be pointing to bad O2 sensors. The light can mean anything from a loose/faulty gas cap to a transmission issue.

This light comes on when the computer detects a fault of some sort in its diagnostic tests. If it keeps detecting this issue, the light will remain on. If the light turns off, then it has detected that the issue may no longer be present.

In order to find out what the exact reason was for your light, You need to have your car computer scanned to retrieve the code that the computer would have stored when the light triggered. Most garages will do this free of charge. The code will tell you what may have caused the light to initially turn on.

How do you know if you have a faulty rear ho2s sensor and where is it located?

o2 sensors are located on the exhaust pipes
1-2 before the cataltic converters and 1-2 after the cat. converters. 4 cyl engine has 1 before and 1 after. 6 and 8 have 2 before and after mostly) to determine if they are bad it is best left to a repair facility to run a computer diagnostic test routine and or emissions system tests.

Check Engine Light - O2 Sensor - bank 1 running lean

you should have three oxygen sensors on your car, one for each bank of three cylinders; should be towards the Y pipe on each exhaust manifold. Additionally you should have one on the exhaust pipe before the cadilitic converter.
