I just bought a 99 boxster today, and when I went to see it, the top won't go up. The gentleman that sold it to me said that it was working fine this morning, and didn't know how to fix. PLEASE HELP

I have a 1999 Boxster and initially the top wouldn't go up.

I (gently) pounded the metal cover the top stores in - near the rear trunck - the motor worked and I managed to close it. Afraid it will do the same thus not opening it again. Any thoughts? Lose connection, motor starting to fail or........?

The convertible top on my 1998 boxster would not work either, nor would the windows go down. If you have checked the fuse and it is fine, then it may be what I had experienced which is the switch located in the center console directly under the hand brake. There is a white plastic switch with a plunger on it that is engaged by the handbrake being raised. When the handbrake is engaged it activates the switch which then allows the convertible top to be activated. It's a $5.00 part, (I know, I couldn't believe it either) from the porsche dealer, and a very easy to do yourself job, it took me 10 minutes from start to finish. It would be worth spending the $5 and replacing it anyway, at least you could rule it out if it stll does not work you only spent $5 rather thank $140 an hour labor rate at dealer. Pop the side plastic panel under the hand brake on the drivers side and you will see the white plastic switch. Good luck.

I would honestly go to your nearest porsche dealer and have it done propely because it's most likely that the motors burnt out but i wouldnt advise doing this your self if ur not 100 percent sure how to do it, one problem taking to them is it will be expensive.

Hello jomis99 is jp .is the conv light on is one that shows a conv top open .check fuses lower left kick pannel driver side .check if the trunk is open or if the dash indicator tells you that a door is open sometimes the switch goes bad and it will prevent you to operate the conv top . check under driver seat this is were the conv top and locks ecu is located some times it will get water and the contacts get rusty or damege to the ecu ,check battery leads for sulfate and water around the batt the drain gets full of leafs and therefore gets full of water and this adds to poor cunducttivity . this is some small help before going to the dealer,or a porsche specialist .

SOURCE: 1999 porsche boxster windows wont go up all the way

That problem appears to be in the top release. this is the thing at the top of the windshield that you release. Press the button inside of it to see if that may be the problem. it is the only thing that wouldn't let your windows go all the way up. The switch inside may have gone bad.

How do I close the ignition key cover after replacing battery on porsche boxster ignition key

It's really tricky to align everything. Put all the parts in the key, if you're having trouble take all the parts out and put them in the other side of the key (the opposite side from where you put the parts in first) then push the cover on. If you put the parts on the wrong side first it won't close.

It should move in and out (it pulls out and pushes in) It doesn't move up and down. Reply back if it won't do either.

I had a similar issue on my 2000 boxster. The handbrake sensor connection just needed to be pushed in about 1/8" for the system to deactivate. Excellent advice. Thanks.

The boot wont open on my porsche boxster year 2002 its making the noise but not clicking open

Try pushing down on the surface a few times while the switch to open it is being held, to release any load on the mechanism. If that does the trick, be sure to clean and lubricate it before closing the lid again.
