How do I fix an engine rattle at low rpm, light load, city speeds? The spark plugs aren't due for replacement yet, should I be going after an exhaust sensor?

Depends on your definition of rattle. Engines don't rattle unless something is loose or a rock has landed in a cooling hole on the side of the catalytic converter. So , if you can give us a better description of what the engine is doing, you'll get a load of incorrect answers.

Rattling under load only. Front end. Seems to be under the passenger side. It stops when 4wd is engaged.

rattle is usually a bad shock, or loose attachment on frame rail . look around pass side frame rail, check sway bar bushings also, see if u can wiggle upper shock cover .

Just had the timing belt changed for my 2004 pt cruiser and the engine is making load rattling noise.

Hopefully something is just loose and rattling around. The bad alternative is that the timing belt job was botched. I would not drive the car , get the mechanic to come over and find the problem , or he can tow it back to his shop at his expense.

Can the rear stut rattle and still be functional

This depends on what is loose. It can be the source of the rattle but is doubtful. Start by checking for loose components with the car sitting on the ground as well as jacked up. Some components may only rattle under certain circumstances.

2003 Kia Spectra odd rattle in shifter

You are most likely hearing metal on metal on the brake pads. The brakes are not attached to the gear shift in any way. Unless those Koreans have done some really wierd design.

Exhaust system rattling on 2005 300C. 58,000 miles!

You have a loose heat shield or a broken rubber mount.

jack your car up make sure you put some thing under need like a jack stand ( just for safety) and manually shake your muffler usually rattling noises are cause when metal rubes metal.
