Question about 2000 Honda Civic

2000 honda Civic in Brasil

I have a leaking power steering rack and the rubber boots are ripped. Are the Honda Civic's the same in Brasil as in other countries, and will USA Honda civic parts fit this one?

No, the power steering is entirely a separate and sealed system, wholly external to the engine. The power steering pump pushes the fluid through a high pressure hose into the rack and pinion-the steering gear mounted below and behind the engine-and holds pressure within the rack that enables power assisted steering. At the same end where the power steering fluid hose enters the gear will be a fitting for a return line back to the fluid reservoir. These two hoses are usually routed close together at least part of the way, some may even be held together with brackets. Leaks could develop at the pump, the fluid reservoir, or the two hoses to and from the rack and pinion, or the seals inside the rack and pinion may have failed. You should be able to find the leak-it will only leak to the outside-to check the rack and pinion for leaks, right where your tie rods come out of the gear and go to the wheels for steering, will be a small rubber boot encasing the tie rod and the end of the rack assembly-on both ends is a boot and a tie rod-peel back the rubber boot from the gear ass\'y, it should be dry. If a lot of fluid, the seals in the rack and pinion are gone. It will have to be replaced.
Hopefully you will find a leaking hose or fractured reservoir, but keep looking, air flow may be blowing the leaking fluid back and under the car. Good luck, hope it\'s not the rack and pinion.

What are bellows boots on a honda


the bellows are the the plastic tubes that protect the inner tie rod end/rack from dirt and water. If there is fluid coming out of the bellows than the rack is leaking. The normal repair is to replace the rack with either a remanufactured or new rack and pinion.

hard to steer is not the pump in most cases, it is the power steering rack and pinion steering gear.

Hi,i have a honda civic 1.4 ,2005 model and have a noise from drivers sid wheel,i suspect the power steering fluid level is low but i am unable to locate the reservior?


Is the fluid pink to dark red color?

Power steering high pressure hose,low pressure and/or steering rack can be the source of the leak.

just remove old rack install power rack in its place bolts up the same look at acivic with power steering to determin hoses go get apower steering pump braket and the power steering resevor and braket make sure u get an alignment after ur done

Power stearing luquid leak (Honda Accord 2002 50K milage)


aside from any obvious leaks from the hoses or fittings, or the pump. typically if you were to pull the rubber dust boots of the ends of the rack, any fluid inside the boot would indicate a bad rack. hope this helps.

The 8 years I ran a shop I didnt have very many issues with them... They leak with age and wear as most eventually will... what is your issue?

It sounds like your power steering pump, not the belt. Have u checked the fluid level? If it's low it can make a 'growling' type noise. Any leaks under the car from power steering? U can check by putting a big piece of cardboard under the car at night, check where any leaks show up on it the next morning.
ålso check the belt for fraying or cracks (if u find any, replace it), also the belt tension, if it's loose, the belt may squeal (not what u describe),

Power steering not working


The first thing you have to ask yourself is "where did the old fluid go in the first place?"

Most likely, it is leaking from the steering rack itself, and into the dust boots, which is why you can't see it.

If the system was completely empty, you will have to fill it, and turn the wheel from left to right, all the way from "lock to lock" each way. This can be hard, but that's what you have to do to get the fluid back into the system.

It "should" only take 3-4 complete turns back and forth for it to work, unless there's a major leak. Then, top off the system.

Look under the car for any signs of fluid "weeping" from out of the steering rack.
