Question about 1998 Ford Windstar

1 Answer

Power windows All of my power windows are not working. For a few weeks they would work, and the next day they would not work at all. Now none of the windows are working. They have been like this for 2 days. Is it a fuse? If so what fuse do I need to replace?

There is a relay, it may be sticking open, also the power lead to the master window switch (driver door) may be burnt or damaged, I believe the relay is in the engine compartment.

There is a module in the dash called the generic electronic module (GEM), all the windows locks, lights wipers etc go through it, a Ford dealer can access that module in real time and quickly know the problem, most likely they will charge an hour of labor plus the repair. The dealer only test gear to do this test costs $1000's, so allot of indenpentent shops won't have it, and in fact won't even know the GEM is the main control for all the body related electronics, I am a retired Ford certified electronics master technician, and have fixed hundreds of these types of problems.

Power windows quit working

There is a self-resetting circuit breaker in the power feed to all the windows - it may be faulty and tripping once in a while under load.

most power window circuits use circuit breakers rather than fuses. but if all the other windows work then you rule out a bad circuit breaker/fuse. most likely will be a bad window motor.

On my2000 ford mustang one min all my windows worked the next none of them will work at all... checked fuses under dash all are good

there are a few things you could check.Make sure that the master lock for the window is working properly.Check for power and then wiggle the the wires to the connector to see if there are possibly a loose wire at the connector. If everything looks ok there then I would replace the switch.

All 4 electric windows will not go up or down.

First, check the drivers door to body wiring where it passes between the doors. I'd take the panel off and start from the inside and work your way through the part that travels inside the rubber cover to the car. These are notorious for rotting wires in that area, which will cause a large problem.

If the harness is ok, replace the drivers door power window switch assembly. If the drivers door switches are bad then none of the others will work either. I see this very frequently as well from people who use too much Armour All cleaner, or drive with their window down in the rain and get it wet(smokers usually).

Driver's Side Power window control panel on door doesn't work.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. I took it to a mechanic who has the same vehicle and he said it was the switch in my driver side door panel. Not that big a deal, but a little costly and the switch has to be programmed by a dealer wich is BS. The mechanic put the switch on and it will work on all my other windows except my driver window. so good luck.
