For 2004 Santa fe, does timing belt really need to be changed at 60000 miles? How hard is this to do?

It's a lot of work, and should be done at 60,000 miles. You will have to remove the front cover of the engine to get to it. There's not a lot of room to work with either. If that belt goes on you, so will your engine.

I have no spark on my 2001 4 cyl hyundai santa fe,i have

There is a very good chance the Crankshaft Position Sensor needs replaced. The CKP is what I replace the most for no spark on the 2.4 engine. It is behind the timing belt cover mounted above the crankshaft sprocket. Sometimes they just fail because the sensor was a bad part, other times teeth shear off of the timing belt and get in the wrong place and break the sensor.

Does the 2003 Kia Sedona have a Timing Belt or a Timing Chain

It has a timing belt, if you are gong to replace the belt. It's a good thing to replace the water pump to since it needs to come off. Water pump's are not that expensive, but the labor is and since your going to have to remove it. Might as well replace it is what i tell everyone and then you know your good for a few more trouble free years. Good luck and hope this helps.

Our 2yo santa fe crdi fuel economy has progressively worsened from a very good 8litres/100km to 9.5 or 10, without change in driving habit or obvious change in engine function. We have had a flat battery...

Check your airfilter its in the big black box on the driver side under the hood if its dirty it will make your engine consume more diesel just replace it by a new one the color should be orange or white.
