Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Driving down street with a/c on and the check guages light comes on. i stop pop the hood and notice the elec fan is not on. i go to autozone to run a quick diagnostic and the results come back and say i either have a bad o2 sensor or the fuse is bad or a bad connection in the circuit. i dont understand what that has to do with overheating. i am pretty sure my fan should be kicking on when the engine gets warm but its not.....any ideas?

My car has been overheating (3 times). Had radiator and water pump replaced, now the head gasket valves and head shaved. I looked on line, looks like there may be a link to relay in computer not working. After replacing the radiator, the fan did a number on the is no longer on the car. Found that is a common problem with Jeeps, and dangerous. My heating and ac have not worked properly for a while, either, resulting in dangerous driving conditions when window fog. This may be caused by air flow doors not operating properly, which can result in fire. Don't know if this has anything to do with the cooling system not working, but every time the car overheated, the heater stopped working properly. My mechanic is stumped. He purchased a new computer (used) which says the fans should be working, but they do not unless overridden to be on all the time when the car is turned on. Any help out there, or is this a lost cause?

There is a recall on the electric fan. Contact your dealer. Also the solid state fan relay may be faulty or the fuse is blown. The fan relay is behind the front bumper cover.

My 1998 Isuzu ran hot. Replaced water pump and timing belt. Car still runs hot. There is no white smoke coming out tail pipe. What else could be my problem

you could have a slow coolant leak. the coolant fan may not be functioning. Does it run hot if you are driving or when you come to a stop like at a red light? AutoZone, has a loaner tool program they have a pressure tester. its like a bike air pump. you pump up and it has a guage and it builds air pressure in coolant system...if there is a leak the guage will drop down, and the pressure will temporarily cause a slow leak to leak fairly heavy and makes it easy to locate. if you don't have a leak.. I would like to help you solve the problem but need the info I asked about earlier.

2000 acura tl coolant fan after fluid change

New thermostat, installed, saw, new coolant made a little mess filling reservoir, (normal) checked fan fuse for some reason, and condenser fan fuse (xxx ?:), and temp guage, is slightly lower on gauge (than normal?) (disconnected xxxx? quit? a bit? to get to thermosta?.t no dash warning lights have a feeling I popped a relay.

ok, you did a coolant service with STAT,

and it failed.

tell us what works right and wrong, symptoms only.

over heating? parked, (fan never comes on)? as it hits 225F?

under heating? ( fan stuck on , up North can cause huge cold engine)

dash gauge stuck low. (thermostat wrong heat range 180f is best. see FSM for spec. on this temp. spec..

Dash guage varies.? oddly (air in system)?

Dash gauge too high.? (Stat put in upside-down or bleed hole (jiggle) not UP side. higher side of mount , trapping air.)

Does something wrong happen only driving?

does cap on rad hold 12-14psi pressure, hot.?

if car has fan belts, are they tight? (for sure water pump does)

I am having trouble locating the vacuum hose, and the check engine light goes on and off every other couple of days. Plus I noticed the rpm guage keeps going up and down while at a light

Next time that light comes on, check the code that's popping up. The light is indicating a code, which in turn directs you in the direction of the problem. If you don't have code reader, bring your vehicle to a place like autozone that will check the code for free. Let me know what the code is. Without this, we're just shooting in the dark, with the many different problems that would cause this.

I was code chasing for a long time with mine, (light was intermitent) until I finally bought a code reader myself. Light popped on, I plugged it in and grabbed the code instantly.

I have 2003 grand cherokee with 140000 miles that overheats at idle. as soon as i start moving again, the temp goes back to normal.

You have two fan's on your truck, 1 is a fan clutch runs with the drive belt, 2 elec fan motor, with test light and engine running at normal temp, just a little bit above 1/2 way on your temp gauge check voltage at elec. cooling fan harness if you have voltage at one of the two wire's and fan don't turn on, bad cooling fan motor, on the fan clutch after you check voltage at elec. fan motor turn engine off, with your hand spin drive belt fan if it spin's freely bad fan clutch, replace it.Also check cooling level.Hope this was very helpful

How does the fan operates, does it starts and stop. Car shuts down, red light come near milage guage, have to let car cool down and start again. Can fan cause this problem? Pontiac Gran Am 1998.

the cooling fan should come on about 105-107C and shut off about 95-97C
does the car overheat just sitting running not moving
but if the car overheats on the highway then it's not the fan
check the fan operation run the car till the gauge is over half and watch the fan
if the fan woks then check coolant level if that's ok then try a thermostat

Driving in very hot weather, stopped at light,

you may have blown the head gasket.
check the coolant level,is it low?
if it is ok,check the fan switch on the radiator, change the thermostat, and check that the fan is working.
the fan has to work, saab engines run very hot.
there is a after run fan switch as well that measures engine compartment temperature, and can start the fan even with the car off,so be careful.

My clutch fan is not working at all....

It does not run all the time. its thermostatically controlled. When your idling in traffic on a hot day you will hear it kick on and off. after a good drive leave it idling for a few minutes and you will likely see it come on. Not sure about the dash lights??
