i have a 2000 chevy malibu ls and was told after my check engine light came on that it was the torque converter circuit. i need to understand what that is and how i go about getting the place where i bought it to fix it right. my car has slow speed take off and sputters at certain highway speeds. i also have very poor gas mileage .

TCC stuck open in a 4T60E can be either the TCC solenoid gone bad,or the actual TCC valve and bore in the valvebody is worn out.I rebuild transmissions for a living, and i have a reamer for the TCC bore that oversizes the bore, and then install an aftermarket oversized valve to restore hydraulic integrity. What happens is,the valve is PWM (pulse width modulated) which means it basically vibrates in the bore, and strokes many many times per second.Well, all this pulsing wears out the bore,so it must be oversized. But when the bore becomes worn out, sometimes the valve will literally get stuck and won't move.

torque converter clutch stuck or not working properly

2002 ford escape v6 with trans code p1744 and 741

Unfortunately, the possible issues are numerous. The problem is most likely either your torque converter, or electrical issues with your transmission. Without knowing how the vehicle is acting, if it's drivable, when it trips the codes, etc, it makes it more difficult to accurately diagnose.

Here is what ford says about those codes...

SERVICE PROCEDURE
The torque converter clutch may not engage if one or more of the following conditions exist:
- Stuck converter regulator valve
- Stuck solenoid regulator valve
- Stuck bypass clutch control valve
- Stuck pressure failsafe valve
- Pump bore ring groove depth incorrect
- Worn pump shaft or damaged pump shaft seals
- Pump shaft internal sleeve loose (rattles)
- Turbine shaft seals damaged or missing
- Incorrect Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid
- TCC solenoid mechanically stuck or electrically inoperable
- Damaged internal wiring harness
- Incorrect gear ratio (wrong sprockets)
- Damaged or worn stator support
- Worn torque converter hub bushing
- Torque converter clutch worn or damaged
Use a scan tool to monitor the following PID's:
- TCC = Commanded duty cycle for TCC solenoid
- TCCMACT = Actual slip across the TCC, measured in RPM
- RPM = Actual engine speed
- TSS_SRC = Actual turbine shaft speed
- TCCRAT = Speed/Gear ratio of torque converter/transaxle

Hope this helps.

P0743 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Electrical
Symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) Possible causes - Faulty torque converter clutch solenoid valve
- Torque converter clutch solenoid valve harness or connectors
- Torque converter clutch solenoid valve circuit is open or shorted
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
Tech notes This is an electrical problem code. Could be a problem to the harness to the TCC solenoid, the TCC solenoid connector or the TCC solenoid it self.

My Ford Focus 2006 4 cyc has an engine code PO741 on my OB2. What does that mean?

P0741 Torque convertor clutch circuit failure,it is located in the transmission valvle body, it is attatch to the valve body you can remove it seperately as long as your going to own the Ford focus you might as well get use to replacing these all the time, very common transmission issue with todays car. By the way it is sensitive to worn transmission fluid, when you dont service often these are suspectable to failure.

Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Stuck On

the torque converter clutch circuit is inside the torque converter and is not something u can repair, the torque converter must be cut apart and rebuilt by companies who specialize in this, so all you can do is pull the transmission out of the car and replace the torque converter with a rebuilt or new unit.

Yellow check engine light came on; code; P0741 refers to possible torque converter problem. car runs fine. what else could it be?

Audi code P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off, THIS IS IN MOST CASES A STUCK TORQUE CONVERTER LOCK UP CLUTCH, U MAY NOT EVEN NOTICE THIS AS ALL GEARS WILL WORK JUST NO TORQUE CONVERTER LOCK UP, U WILL NEED TO VERIFY THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH CIRCUIT IS OK AND IF SO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER.
