Question about 1989 Honda Accord 4 Door

1 Answer

1989 Honda intermittent cooling problem.

I have a 1989 Honda Accord Ex with an intermittent cooling problem.

Gage .. generally stays the halfway mark but out of the blue starts climbing to HOT .. may be hot foe 15 seconds then back down below the halfway mark on the temp gage .. then go back up .. after a while goes up and stays up at HOT.

Fan runs when AC is on … does not run otherwise.

When HOT and I cut the car off and open hood even though the fans aren’t running I can hear a humming coming from back of engine close to firewall.

Just paid $187 to get fixed .. they replaced sensor and thermostat .. worked great for one day then started doing the HOT bit again.

??????? HELP !!!!!!!!

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Did they replace the fan relay? My '89 Accord had issues similar, because the fan relay was having intermittant problems. In addition, my car would also go through batteries faster than it should. Turned out that my fan relay would turn the fan on while I wasn't using the car and run down the battery. I found this out when I caught the engine cooling fan on one night, when the car had been parked in my garage, cold and unused, for 2 days. I was told that the fan relay and main relay are common problems with Honda's like mine

if overheats, and trows water or steam, there you can think on the water pump or the thermostat, but you only have a signal problem, try replacing the tempeture sensor.

1991 Accord: I have a 1991 honda accord ex and after the hoses ...

You may have a cracked head, block or blown head gasket that is leaking combustion gas into the cooling system. If you dont have a combution leak detector kit you can take it to a trusted mechanic tell them the problems you've had and the parts you've replaced. Ask them to check for a combustion leak in the cooling system. A minor combustion leak in the cooling system can sometimes mimic the symptoms of overheating.

Were is pcv valve located on 1989 honda accord lx 4 cylinder

You PCV will be located on the center, rear engine area. It is just below the intake manifold, between the block and intake manifold. The valve is housed in the vacuum hose that runs halfway into the engine.

1994 Honda Accord Ex dashboard removal

You have to remove the console and radio pod. Then remove 2 screws that you can now get to behind the pod. Then pry out the dash light dimmer switch (the one you use to adjust dash light brightness) remove the screw behind it that holds in the gage cluster trim. Then there is another switch on the other side under the cluster (don't remember what it is) and there is another screw behind it. Have fun, LOL!
