Does the seat not move or does the back rest not move, Is it and electric operated seat or a manual operated seat?

In most cases i have found the motor has burned out but i would first check fuses and for power at the connector if both are ok it is probably that motor

thought of something else, if the motor is running then it is the cable thats the problem the casing has stretched you can shorten it and reinstall

Mark, try moving the seat back itself, rocking it back and forth whilst operating the tilt lever, you may need an extra hand

I have a 1997 BMW 328i striaght 6 and the passengers front seat will not tilt up or back. the seat will move front to back. but the back of the seat will not move up and down.

this is a typical problem.. Either the individual motor that operates the back of the seat has gone bad or the bar that connects to the back rest has come off.

My passenger seat won't lock into position. It slides back and forth as I drive and the bar that you pull on to move it back and forth is stuck in the up position.

There is a spring that pull's the handle back to lock position that might be broke or the locking mechanism might be gummed up.the spring can't be bought seperatly so check a hardware store or replace the seat track assembly.
