The intake manifold gasket on my f150 was leaking which caused the computer to allow extra gas to compensate for the extra air intake and increased the rpm to 1500 at Idle. I found the leak using a stethoscope. I replaced the the gasket and I was back in business.

What can be happening and is a common issue is that the pedal return spring on the throttle body (linkage) gets weak over the years it happened to mine 2 months ago so u just want to make it tighter by winding it around one more time and lubricate the whole linkage

I found this on another website on about adjusting the carb, not sure if this is the cause without knowing more information but give it a shot. should only take you about 10 minutes. "set the lever on the second highest step of the fast idle cam. measure the primary valve to throttle bore clearance, manual trans .031 inch automatic trans .035 inch, if its off, adjust it with the fast idle adjusting screw if you turn the screw clockwise the fast idle rpm increases,if you turn the screw counterclockwise the fast idle rpm decreases." You also may want to recheck the timing to make sure its exact.

1988 handa accord

I have an 87 Accord with fuel injection that always had a fast idle, and a surging problem when warming up. Both problems went away when I replaced the fast idle valve, which is bolted to the rear of the intake manifold just downstream of the throttle body.

Fast idle

I have a similar problem which seems to stop ,if after 20 mins of driving or warmed up engine if you stop for 10 mins the revs die to a more normal 1500 revs! it is a spanish car now living in theUK I think the problem is choke related.
