My b14 Nissan vehicle cooling fan won't start up when reaching its normal engine temperature. I change the temperature switch, but still the coolant fan won't. I check the fan relay, but when I short circuit the relay the fan work. What seem to be the problem?

Which switch did you change? maybe you changed the switch for the gauge and not the switch for the computer

There are 2 possible broblems

1- the thermostat is not opening to check this let the car run hot and monitor the tempreture of the two radiator hoses, when it get to the point when the heat gauge rises above normal both pipes should be hot to the touch, if only one pipe is hot that means the hot water wont circulate through the radiator to activate the fan switch.

2- There could be air in the cooling system, whilst filling the cooling system remove the top hose to allow all the air to escaspe as you fill the system with air. please note not to open the cooling system cap or pipes whilst the water is hot as it could burn you badly.

    for the possible problem # 1, both the upper and lower pipe are hot to touch. for the possible problem # 2 the system being bleed, but the fan won't start.

Why does my 05 tahoe cooling fans operate randomly?

I'm not sure of the location on your vehicle but, normally mounted somewhere on the radiator, there is a TEMPERATURE SWITCH, which activates the cooling fans. If this switch is failing, it will activate the fans, as if the vehicle is hot.
On the other hand, if your garage reaches 120+ degrees, the fans WILL turn on.

A fan failure, or a failure of the fan relay or control circuit is bad news because it can allow the engine to overheat.
Five things may prevent an electric cooling fan from coming on:
  • Defective temperature switch or coolant sensor
  • Engine thermostat is stuck OPEN (engine never gets hot enough to turn on the fan)
  • Failed fan relay
  • A wiring problem (blown fuse, loose or corroded connector, shorts, opens, etc.)
  • Bad fan motor
ELECTRIC COOLING FAN QUICK CHECKS.
One way to quick check the fan circuit is to start the engine and turn on the A/C to max. If the fan runs, the fan motor, relay, fuse and wiring are all okay. But this test doesn't show if the temperature switch or temperature sensor and PCM are energizing the fan when coolant temperatures are high.
To check the temperature at which the fan comes on, turn the A/C off and keep the engine running until it reaches normal operating temperature. Most fans should come on when the coolant reaches about 200 to 230 degrees. If the fan does not come on, something in the control circuit is defective. Resistance checks should then be made on the temperature sensor or switch, and a voltage check on both sides of the relay (you will probably need a wiring diagram of the fan cooling circuit on your vehicle to identify the relay terminals and wiring connections).
The fan motor itself can be checked by using jumper wires. Unplug the wiring connector on the fan, and use the jumper wires from the battery to route power directly to the fan. If the fan motor is good, the fan should spin at normal speed when supplied with 12 volts. Noisy bearings or a slower than normal speed would indicate a worn motor.

1986 Mazda 323 coolant fan comes on when motor is hot and stays on.

Is the engine actually cooling off? If the temp switch isn't seeing a drop in temperature, it will keep the fan running.

2005 350z touring overheats while in stop and go . recently ran just to High range while idle on very cold day. Coolant change and power wash radiator did not cure problem

Here's something that's a very common cause of overheating, and it's easy to check.

How to test the thermostat in most vehicles;
Make sure the heater is off, start the engine and let it run for 6 to 8 minutes, ( this will allow the
engine to reach, " normal operating temperature "), from the inside of the vehicle turn the heater
temperature on high and turn the fan speed on high.
1. Listen very closely for a click sound from the engine, ( most thermostats make a click when
they open )
2. Watch your temperature guage, it should begin to lower as the coolant starts to circulate.
3. Usually within a few minutes the radiator fan will kick.


What the thermostat does;
It seperates your coolant into two parts. The first part is in your engine, the second part is in your
radiator and the coolant reservior. When the coolant in the engine reaches the temperature rating
on the thermostat the thermostat opens to allow the two parts of coolant to change places. Now
the cooled coolant in the radiator and reservior flows into the engine while the heated coolant flows
from the engine into the radiator and reservior to be air cooled by the radiator fan.

My cooling fan does not come on when car is started.both the ac and cooling fan comes on when ac is started

The cooling fan is required to operate when the engine temperature rises above the maximum operating temperature threshold.
After the car is started, it will usually take some time for this temperature to be reached.
Ensure fan runs when fan control temperature sensor switch demands.
