Question about Ford Ranger

1 Answer

1994 Ford Ranger: just bought. Was starting right up. Yesterday, it would crank, but wouldn't start. Spark plugs (has 8 of them)? Son maybe flooded? I let it sit for a couple hours, still would not start.

Check and make sure you have spark coming out of at least 1 of the plugs when someone cranks it, then make sure you have gas getting through the injectors, also look at every fuse in the truck inside and under the hood to make sure 1 isnt popped. let me know what you find

so you have a flex fuel vehicle? yes the fuel sensor will cause a no start as well, it will just crank all day long. I am glad you got it fixed.

Hesitation on take off and a miss while goin down the road in my 1994 2.3l ford ranger

Start with a complete tune-up

Plug wires can cause this.

Do spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor cap, spark plug wires, fuel filter, air filter, oil & oil filter.

People often neglect these simple things which could save your motor, maintain it's efficiency plus improve gas mileage.

1994 ranger 2.3L 5spd, w a/c. replaced fuel

Only way to check the timing belt is to remove cover, When was last time belt was replaced, timing belt should be replaced every 50,000 miles, shound like that would be next thing to check

TWO DAYS AGO 94 RANGER (4 CYL) SOHC...STOPPED ON ROAD. CRANKS BUT DOES NOT START. HAS FUEL PRESSURE. CHANGED FUEL FILTER. CHANGED AIR FILTER. CHANGED ONE OF THE DISTRIBUTOR COILS...TWO SPARK WIRES WERE NOT...

If all the coils are giving spark now, then you moat likely have gas fouled plugs now,so change them out with new ones, all 8 of them.If you do not have spark on all plug wires, pull the timing belt cover, and align the cam shaft and the cam,to see if the belt has jumped. If It hasn`t,replace the crankshaft sensor.

2001 ford ranger after it sits for a few hours it

No not the fuel pump. You most likely need to do a tune uo. New spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter. Deffinently change out the spark plugs. I would suggest using autocraft, autolite (fords brand} or some densos or ngk for better performance. Hope this solves your problem.

1985 Ford Ranger will not start when damp and cool outside.

possibly distributor cap getting wet. Try this. When it's not starting, remove distributor cap and dry inside and outside with hair dryer on warm setting. See if it starts then. If yes, replace cap and rotor and make sure plug wires are clean.
If it still doesn't start, you may be getting mositure in a wire connector that operates spark to plugs.

Are you getting spark at plugs when it own't start?
Check by getting a spark plug and plugging a spark plug wire into it and grounding the side of the plug. crank engine and watch for spark at gap.

I just bought a 1987 ford ranger from an elderly women whos son just died. He had just replaced the head gasket **** didn't get it back running. The engine has spark at all plug but won't start even on...

Sounds like maybe the distributor is off. I run into that alot after that kind of engine work. Reset the distibutor to #1 TDC. I hope that I helped you. Best wishes.
