Problem with 95 jag XJ6

Help! I have a 1995 Jaguar XJ6. A week ago it would not start (turning over fine, just wouldn't grab). I towed it to the shop where I have it serviced and they said that it was the downstream oxygen sensors - they would be $800 each from the Jaguar dealership - ah! I ordered two 2 senors from autopartswarehouse.com that the rep assured me were rigth for my car. The mechanic put them in and the car was running great until yesterday - it won't start, same senario as a week ago. Autopartswarehouse.com says to return the O2 sensors for a full refund but even checking the VIN number of my car they are certain that they are the right ones. The diagnostis says that it is the O2 sensors. :-( I don't know what to do. Can anyone help?

My 1997 XJ6 is giving me a problem for the last 3 weeks .. see this problem listed below ..
I am going to try the Champion or Bosch spark plugs possible solution which worked for Scotty61 .. my car was going perfectly but stalled 4 times on a Saturday .. was ok for a short drive on Sunday .. and then would not start on Monday .. but the plugs had done 10k miles .. I also need the 6 gaskets that are recommended to be changed when spark plugs are changed ..

The car starts now but will stall again if left idling for a few minutes .. and will stall if I try to rev up sharply .. runs ok ish at 2000 to 3000 rpm ..

I hope it is the spark plugs .. and will post solution if I sort it out .. any suggestions and help are welcome ..

I serviced my X300 4.0 litre Jaguar and steam cleaned the engine. It would not start afterwards and eventually had a mobile jaguar specialist who was convinced that it was that I cleaned the engine that was the problem. We replaced every major engine compenent from his car I.E. all the sensors, air temp intake, lambda (02) sensors, crank, engine management computer all to no avail.
After 6 hours replacing everything we took it to the main dealer only to find that it was the spark plug make!!! We changed them to Champion and it fired and ran first time!!!!
Apparently you can only use Champion or Bosche spark plugs as the engine doesn't like the cheaper ones?!?!?! Difficult to believe, but it seems to be the case as I've never had a problem since.
It cost me over £600 to fix this problem.

Had this problem before and found it to be the crankshaft sensor. This would be cheaper fix than the Lambda sensors.

95 jaguar xj6 no brake or reverse lights

Hi the Jaguar XJ6 works off a 12volt, negative earth.... Jauguar are a legend for electrical faults.... ok you need to do a voltage check/fault check on the system, remove the fuses from the associated problems, i.e the rear lights! place a volt metre over the contacts and there should be no voltage present! grab the wiring harness and move it side to side! if you see a rise in the volt metre then there is a short to the earth! this can be done through out the systen including switches.... i would personally check the earth contacts near he problem areas these corrode and you then get a short in the cicuit

Hope this helps.

Xj6 1994 won't start

Check battery voltage and strength first. The computer needa bout 10 volts to get the car started. My battery went low when I had stored my 94 jag and I went to start it. It turned over but didn't start. Because of this it flooded it too. So I took out the battery to charge it and pulled the plugs to clean them of excess fuel. It started right away after this but blew white smoke for about 5 minutes. I thing the fuel soaked the converters. Hope this helps.

My 95 xj6 would not start in cold weather. Towed to jaguar dealer and they diagnosed it as a battery problem. Changed battery started for three weeks. It is cold again motor turns over but does not start.

your suppression module is dead and need to changed. It blocks the alternator from charging the battery, so basically you are running on battery power...dmakia@gmail.com for more

95 jaguar xj6 cuts out

sounds like valves not seating, this model car suffers from burnt valves as the engine was designed pre war when they had high octane fuel and lots of lead in the fuel ,lead lubricates the exhaust valves as well as causing all other health problems.but iam sure that these engines never got a stelite coated valves and valve seats when in 92 we all went unleaded.i have reground no end of heads since word got around that i could do a jag.i can get the head off in about an hour ,they are quite simple really just dammed heavy and the head gaskets expensive about 100€ another 3/4 hours to grind valves in then refit.valve timing marks on rear of cams by the way .
