We have a problem with our battery going flat every few weeks. We have a Kia Sorento 2005 auto 3.5. There is no reason for the battery to go flat. No doors or lights are left on during the night. Kia...

Sounds like something is drawing the battery down...The best test for this is.... Well before starting this test make sure your doors are closed and everything is off. Then ...Take (disconnect) one end of the battery cable, the Positive or negative it don't mater witch one. Put a 12 volt test light between the two disconnected (cable and battery end)...now if the light is lit, then you have a voltage drain somewhere...to find out were it is you will have too start to remove your fuses one at a time until your test light goes off...for example: if you pulled your cigaret lighter fuse and the light went off then you know there is a problem with that circuit...ect......

This sounds a little confusing but it is fairly easy..i sure hope this helps you out..Good Luck

Make sure you have that battery tested for a Dead Cell. It is common to have volts which allows you to have lights and power windows and radio and such but it won't crank teh vehicle because it doesn't have Amps. Auto Zone, Pep Boys and just about any other large auto parts store will load test the battery for free.

The check engine light is on and it won't go over 20 mph

HI. This will require you to have the engine CPU scanned for trouble code's. This can only be administered with the assistance of a diagnostic computer scan tool. You can purchase this tool at your local auto parts store, or you can just have the scan ran at your local auto zone parts store, free of charge. Once the diagnostic scan is administered, you will be able to isolate the issues that have caused the check engine light to illuminate.

This scan tool will display a print out code and the location of the issue, on the engine, as well. There are Many issues that will cause the engine light to illuminate, but the most common cause will be a failed monitoring sensor, or sensor harness failure(separated power wire, or ground). This type of sensor failure will induce 'Limp Mode". This is a safety feature that the engine computer will initiate to save your engine from possible extensive damage under these conditions. This is why you cannot drive passed 20 mph.

Once you have the codes, kindly return to the site, and post them here. We will be able to assist with more accuracy, once the codes are posted.

Thanks..

Runs for weeks then won't start

check your battery terminals, wires are probably loose. If not, take battery to auto zone to have tested to see if its good and holds a charge. If thats good, take your alternator to auto zone and have them test THat to see if its good. It is 99% one of these 3 things.

2005 kia sorento crank shaft position sensor where is it located?

I HAVE A 2005 KIA SORENTO V-6. MY PROBLEM STARTED WHEN I WOULD DRIVE ON TO THE HWY IT WOULD PUTTER LIKE IF I WAS LOSING POWER. THE HOLE TIME THIS WAS GOING ON MY GAS GAGE WOULD NOT WORK. SO I WENT OUT TO AUTO ZONE HERE IN MADERA CA AND BOUGHT A DIAGNOSTIC TESTER AND THE CODE NUMBER P0338 WHICH MEANS CRANK SHAFT CENSER IS GONE. SO WHEN YOUR GAS GAGE STOP WORKING GET YOUR CAR TESTED OR THE BEST WAY TO GO IS TO INVEST IN A DIAGNOSTIC TESTER. IT WILL SAVE YOU A LOT OF MONEY

My Grand Vitara came on and went off after I got

There are to many things that can cause this problem. The good thing is the Engine light came on so the ECM has detected a problem. If there is an Auto Zone around your area, have the car scanned for the DTC codes a to address the issues the engine has. If there is no Auto Zone, other larger Auto parts store may scan for free and most auto garage now charge any where from $15.00 to $25.00 to scan since they know most larger parts store scan for free. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help.
