Question about 1981 Ford F 150

1 Answer

When braking to stop, my 2007 Ford F150 will suddenly on its own Rev to 2000 RPMs and the truck surges forward making it impossible to stop. This happens at about 10 MPH. So far this has happened 5 times between March 2008 and July 2008 almost causing several accidents. The only way to stop when this happens is to shift the vehicle into neutral. Then everything returns to normal. Two separate dealers were unableto find anything wrong.

Has anyone else had this problem

  • Anonymous Aug 19, 2008

I have had the exact same problem with my 2006. It has happened four times so far. The dealer has a monitor in my truck to try and diagnose the problem. I have to activate it when it happens and it will record data 30 seconds back and 20 seconds forward. Needless to say I have to get control of the truck first. Quite scary!

The dealer is going to install some type of data recorder in my 2007 also but the problem is I have to push a button to start the recorder. Like you say, my first priority is to stop the truck not worry about starting a recorder. Plus they are only giving me the device for two weeks so it's likely that the problem won't happen while I have the recorder. I'm giving them one more chance then I am going to an attorney to file a lemon law suit.

Regarding the comment by GUEST on 8/19, if you have any luck getting the problem diagnosed, please post the solution. I will talk to the dealer about bigun18 suggestion about a bad brake boster.

Check the wear on all of your brake pads. If that is not it then look at the emergency brake switch on the back side of the emergency brake, it may be stuck or need adjusting.

Check the PCV valve and vacuum lines for leaks. You also need to check the Vacuum advance as it sounds like it might be sticking a little.

My f150 is cutting off when i stop. the rpms are lower than usual

I would check the idle air control valve, also you might have a bad coolant tempuature sensor, I would also check the air filter and repalce the fuel filter, if it hasn't been changed.

2000 ford f150 clicking noise under dash when brakes applied at 60 kph or greater only ,will stop by its self 60kph or less

Please check the brake systems.

The brake lining is bad and rough. Replace or have it grounded.

Good luck.
