Something to check is the counter weights in the distributor, if they are sticking, rusty or a spring is broke this could cause this problem.

What would cause a 98 sonoma to crank but not start

Try replacing the Crankshaft Position Sensor located on the lower front of the motor behind the crank pulley.

The sensors are somewhat common to create an open circuit when they heat up, but work again when the coil inside of it cools down.

My 1994 240 gl loses all power then stops as if it is out of fuel if you let the car sit and cool off it will start do you think that i have a fuel pump prob or fuel filter prob the car has done265000 are...

well it is down to fuel the filter is a cheap part so change this first, and blow out all the fuel pipes as well if it still dose the same thing its time to look at the fuel pump but there normalt prity good and go on for years, however at 265,000 its getting to be an old lady by now, so may well be playing you up a bit

the starter could possibly going out which would make it not want to start when its warm...or your power wire that connects to the starter could be loose as well
