Excessive black smoke puffs out when I take off or try to pick up speed. Is it the turbo or injectors that need replacing

I'm suspecting it is a diesel you are reffering to. Excessive black smoke is due to unburned fuel. You may have an injector issue where one or more is leaking. Very doubtful as to a turbo problem causing this. I would suggest a strong diesel fuel treatment in the fuel be tried first ( possibly several applications ) to see if it helps. Injector replacement is expensive

Nissan Terrano Diesel 55 plate engine management light comes on 10 mins after first journey and sounds like a diesel knock although does not seem to effect performance and there is no excessive smoke.

Probably you might face a problem on the injection pump with the Advance or retar positioning, and I believe that is controlled by the vehicle ECU. The Diesel Knocking you receive should be this fault.

2006 Focus Diesel blowing lots of white smoke out exhaust, mostly at low speeds. What can the probelm be?

If you experience the higher USEAGE of OIL on the engine then it is possible that the oil rings are weak on the engine. So please make sure that this consumption of oil is seen , if so the oil also can blacken faster and cause more damage to the engine. You will need to overhaul the engine is this problem is seen.

2001 3 door sports Auto Grand Vitara excessive fuel useage 150000klms good cond

Hi.....Daz...... what do you call excessive? Two things........ firstly you must make sure your vehicle is in optimum running condition, so you need to check and renew if required, things like air and fuel filters, plugs, check spark plug hi tension leads, coils and wiring harnesses, timing, injectors , engine management systems....... checking also for fuel leaks around pipes and unions and the tank. If all ok, then you must carry out a controlled fuel consumption check. fill your tank brimm full......note the mileage and drive the vehicle normally, do not make an effort to drive economicly, drive as you would daily for a couple hundred kms, return to tha same garage and same pump, brim the tank and note the mileage and litres filled and do a calculation of how many kms per litre... I think you might be surprised........... bear in mind that the vehicle has done in excess of 150000 k and as the engine gets older will loose some fuel efficciency..... its called wear and tear..... hope this helps.... Happy Christmas.......... Steve Botswana

Used 3.5 quarts of oil in 4000 miles

that is still within the factory spec for normal oil useage. one quart every 750 is considered excessive, i do agree that it should be less, but if this is a warranty issue u are out of luck, they won't do anything.

Engine idles rough and puffs black smoke out exhaust

on petrol engines is caused by excissive rich mixture,on diesels the injectors need servicing as injectors are not atomizing properly the diesel and just dribling excess fuelwhich is the black smoke

Excessive oil useage due to carbon build up making the oil control rings stick. Problems with the sunroof operation and leaking, also leaking around the rear window and around the windsheild. Also, problems with the power windows coming off track.

Excessive black exhaust on 2003 GMC Sierra Duramax Diesel.

This is what i would try (cheapest first) redexe/wyyns
injector cleaner, double dose, then i have put 1gal gas in 10gal diesel to increase burn temp (you may encounter a hot start problem temporarilly)then if still smoking, get a compresion check on the engine(this will tell you volumes)
by the way the NATO tanks put in 1/3 gas in diesel to stop it freezing in arctic conditions.any more than 1/3 can result in problems.
