I also have a 1404 code. It's an EGR code. I have replaced the EGR valve and still having the same problem. it has started to idle very ruff and when you drive it for a long period of time it will gets harder to get on the gas. It will lugg then just die, and it is difficult to start unless I let let it sit then it will strat but only last a few miles. only other thing I can think of is maybe the EGR sensor or cleaning fuel injectors. takin mine intomorrow for an engine diagnostic check. plus the oil pressure indicator will fluxuate between 40 and will sometimes peg out at 80.

Best bet is to replace it for the long run. if code still comes on we have had a few chevy cars that needed a pcm updated this can only be done by the dealer most of the time it cost only one hour of labor. and it fixed it plus a few other things also good luck.

SOURCE: diagnostic code 1404

Trouble code P1404 means: EGR Close Position Performance
basically pull off the EGR and try to clean it up, if that doesn't work it will need to be replaced.
Hope that helps!

Got a 1404 code manufacturer controlled auxiliary emission controls

This code shows up if you have a bad or clogged EGR valve, find your EGR valve if you can, clean it, this should clear the code.
If, after cleaning, code returns then you need to replace it.

I got the code 1404 I replaced the egr and cleared the code, the light came back on with the same code 1404 what else can I do ?

Check the wiring for power and ground. Then check the wiring for resistance from the EGR to the ECM. You will need wiring schematics. If this checks out, then there is a computer reprogram that can be done. Dealer.

2006 dodge ram hemi 5.7 liter trouble codes 1404 and 405 and check engine light on

The check engine light is on to tell you that the ECU has detected a fault. The faults are stored as codes. The codes both have to do with a deficiency of exhaust gas going through the EGR valve. You will need to find out if the problem has to do with the valve, a leak, or the circuit.

2001 grad prix code 1404 egr valve is good but still throws 1404 code any help would be greatful

Ensure the connector wiring pins fit snug at the valve.
A loose pin fit could cause this fault. These EGR's due fail quite often however. I know you say it is good however a solenoid may be failing when hot.

Error code 1404

Good Day,

Your best option is to replace the EGR(exhaust gas recurcilation) valve with a new one. For pics and detailed instructions on the process see this link:

Once replaced you will have to clear the trouble code by disconnecting the negative battery terminal, re-connect after a few moments.

Hope this helps
