car is stuck in park. car will turn on but will not shift out of park.

I too have the same problem.I purchased my Jetta 1.8T just shy of 6months ago. The first thing to come up was my check engine light, which turned into getting transmission work done. That was within the first two and a half months of purchase.

Now, as I was leaving Chipotle two sundays' ago, my car turned on, it even started; but I could not shift into gear. Now, I have to pay over another $600.00 to have another service repair.

The first repair was performed at Aamco Transmission here in Dallas, Texas. To which I was cornered into receiving their services because instead of them calling me back to notify me of the exact issue(s) with my car, they proceeded to breakdown my transmission, then notify my warranty company. After a couple of weeks had passed I finally became so frustrated with the timing of the poor services, that I then went to make a surprise visit to see if anything there was any further progress had begun. To my findings, no!

I was told they had to wait for my warranty company to contact them with some new quotes. He(the man I initially requested a simple, and free check engine light check done) fanned some papers past my face. I asked what did the papers enclose, and if I could see them. He then held them up away from me as if I could read the details from a counters length in between the two of us. I then again asked if I could see the papers. The 'man' then handed them over to me. As I began reading the papers, and progressed to flip through them. He decided he wanted to take the papers back from me. So I stated, I'm not finished reading everything yet, at that very moment he reached out for the papers, and I stepped back. At that time, he then swipped at my hands to take the papers back. Which in term, lead me to think that something more was taking place involving my car that I needed to know about. So I stepped a little further back asking why are you acting like this, I just want to know whats going on with my car, and he states, " That those papers are property of Aamco and you can't look at the rest of the papers". So, I really bacame curious at that point. From there, the 'man' {because I no longer feel as though he earned his rights to be referred to as a gentleman}. Finally, this guy charges from behind the counter at me, and I'm afraid for my life at this time-NO EXAGERATION! I open the door just slightly to waive for my boyfriends mother to come inside and help me, to which he then slams the door against my body, and literally tears the papers from my hands. To this day I still have the corners of the papers on file with the rest of my paperwork that I was able to receive.

I did call the police right then, and the officers that arrived almost thirty minutes later were one male, and one female. They both listened to me as I so shakenly gave my complaint, still with trembles, and tears running down my face. I mean this is my first car, and I am buying it on my own. The officers then walks over to hear the guys' side of what just happened. Afterwards, they both return and inform me of course, that he pleads that he did nothing to me at all. THankfully there are cameras in thier front office, so it caught the incident on tape, unfortunately, the male officer sided with the guy from Aamco Transmissions, yet the lady officer understood my pain and confusion. Clarifying that she too was taken off guard one time before by going to get some work done on her car, but realized that women are treated unfairly when it comes to car repairs, or even purchases. Now, there are some gentlemen out there who would never dream of over taking a woman just because they think they'll get more bang for their work. Except I've been taken! Don't be next PLEASE!!!!!! Sincerely, Dallas, Texas

P.S. If you have any help at all on how to maintain/repair a volkswagen, please feel free to respond to this inquiry asap! Thank you!

Transmission is probably shot. You need to get it towed to the dealership so that they can really look at it... whatever it is it's not good.

If you have warrenty take it to the dealer if you dont'... it's prolly the transmission is sezed up and you'll need a new one...

I have a 98 VW Jetta... mine is 3200.00 dealer replacement...

My 1997 Chevy Cavalier automatic transmission is stuck in neutral and the shifter just glides from park, won't engage in any gears.

If the shift handle moves extremely freely (more than normal), changes are that the shift cable has become disconnected from the shift lever. This would explain the indicator not moving out of neutral.
You will need to access the shift lever by removing the console cover. Once you access the shifter check the cable connection to the level. If the cable is broken, it will need replacement. If the cable clip has broken or fallen off, it will need to be reattached.

1999 GMC Sierra stuck in drive. What do I do?

First off, set the parking brake, raise vehicle so you can get under it. Remove the shift linkage from the transmission and manually move the shift lever to park. Then try moving the shift mechanism inside the car to park and then through each gear (engine off of course). See if the mechanism sticks, if so, probably a broken tab on the locking mechanism for the shift lever in the steering column. If it moves freely, try the lever on the transmission back and forth through the gear range to see if it sticks. If it sticks, or you can't initially move it by hand, you have a transmission problem that requires trained individuals to fix. If it moves freely also, try lubing the cable with silicone spray at all contact points, especially where it enters and exits any cable sheathing. (spray into sheathing well) If both move freely independent of each other, it may just have been in a bind, put both shifter and tranny lever in park and reattach the shift cable, Then try the gear range again from inside the vehicle.

Buick Century 2000 gear shifter moves freely will not start

Sounds like your shift cable came unhooked or just plain Broke, it hooks to shifter and hooks to transmission, If it moves freely I would say it's Broken, and that is why car won't start cause it is still in drive

Shift CABLE?...On my way from Chicago to Milwaukee, my shift stick (automatic) got stuck in last gear, as I tried to pry it from last gear it became losen and stuck in drive. I got home safely but I knew...

Disconnect cable at the trans and try to move the shift lever. If cable moves freely, try to move control arm on trans to make sure it's free. (don't forget,,,do this with engine off and wheels chocked so it dosen't roll away on you!
Chances are the cable is bad.
