Question about 1999 GMC Suburban

1 Answer

I had my distributor replaced 7 weeks ago. The idle has been really rough ever since the replacment. Now I have white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe when I first start it. Smoke usually disappears in a block or two.

Sounds like your timimg is off either by a tooth or at least a few degrees, does it make a rattling sound when you come on to the fuel hard? Also check to see if your coolant level is going down if so you could have a bad head gasket.

White smoke and foam in the gas tank indicates antifreeze leaking into the engine somewhere. Do you smell antifreeze? You may have an engine seal leaking, most likely head gasket. It may be affecting the various engine sensors.

CEL blinking smoke coming from exhaust, rough idle

White smoke is indicative of burning coolant. Gray smoke is burning oil.

Have a compression test done which will often give an indication of evolving head gasket problems. If the coolant level is going down, and there's no obvious leak, its a head gasket.

If you have excessive white smoke coming from the vehicles exhaust, it sounds like your headgasket is failing. Especially having a rough idle too. Check your coolant level, does your exhaust smoke smell sweet, like Antifreeze? If so, the gasket has blown. Hope this helps...

Suzuki Vitara V6, MAF sensor, white smoke.

Hi:
My first thoughts are that you have a head gasket or intake manifold gasket failure. This is why you have the white smoke. If you run it too long, your catalytic converter will be destroyed. Check for coolant in your oil too.

If your engine is not misfiring but it vibrates too much while idling your motor mounts might be getting worn out. I had a Nissan with bad motor mounts. I was ok in park but when you put it in gear it vibrated a lot. It smoothed right out as soon as you started moving.
