Question about Chevrolet Blazer

1 Answer

I have a 1990 full size blazer with 5.7 ltr engine and tbi. There is a vacuum leak sound coming from around the tbi unit but nothing is unhooked and the gasket is new. it idles irratically. normally then stumbles then back to normal. Driving it, it shifts rough and has no power at all. I also changed the fuel pump and the ECM with factory replacements 1 week ago.

Idles erratically, just changed rocker cover? gasket .now it revs high, not sure why, can I fix this suzuki swift 1990

rocker cover, i edited it for you. (my guess high is over 800rpm)?
hot engine or cold engine or both?
if hot is water temp, 180F? or stuck at 149F"? too low...
are you in neutral or drive? or park.?
which engine?. is it there are many sizes used on Swifts,
one if the largest number of engines on car.
my guess is a "G" engine family.
High idle is usually a vacuum leak,
is this a CARB or EFI engine?, (TBI, throttle body injection:?)
if it is EFI and if TBI
any air leaks will cause too fast hot idle.
here is the list: EFI only ! electronic fuel injected.
  1. Vacuum leaks. (hose left off, or now cracked?)
  2. sticking ISC, idle controller.
  3. TPS set wrong, and no longer has a working idle switch.
  4. ECU in Limphome (if CEL lamp (dash) glows running , bingo)
  5. PVC hose fell off.. sucking in fresh air , and higher idle.
more if you have answers to what your engine and driveline
consist of.

here is the lineup
GEN2 Swifts (the G family used)
1.0 L G10 (LP2) I3
1.0 L G10T (LS3) turbo I3
1.3 L G13A/BA (L72) 8V I4
1.3 L G13B/G13K 16V DOHC I4
1.5 L G15A 16V I4
1.6 L G16 16V I4

1989 full size blazer with 350 TBI. Starts when cold if I push pedal to floor and won't start at all if I dont floor it. Then motor starts to load up with lots of black smoke out of exaust and stalls after...

Do a full blown fuel system cleaning and replace fuel filter. If you can, check the SeaFoam.com site on cleaning procedures. It works great for bringing the dead (stored/parked) back to life. FWIW, mashing the pedal to floor on those older TBIs actually turns fuel off on start ups. Run a good cleaner through it (sounds like injector is gummed up)

1990 full size blazer starts fine idles then dies

sounds real easy either a bad idle air control solenoid or more likley a blown throttle body gasket. to test fro a blown gasket, with engine running and cool spray carb cleaner or brake cleaner around base of tb were it bolts to intake. when it hits the bad area, should idle down and be normal for a second or 2. iac is possible, try this first since its so common and let me know

Car wont idle, dies and shifts eratically

Hello;
It definetly sounds like a vacuum leak problem. The vacuum hoses are routed to perform various functions for the engine and transmission. They can be very difficult to track down. They are small diameter black hoses and start at the intake manifold (the source) and go to their respective locations.
They could be cracked, oil soaked, loose fitting, or disconnected to name a few problems to look for. Take it to a mechanic if you do not feel comfortable replacing the hoses.
Thanks;
