Short life on 2003 Saturn Vue Front Hub & Wheel Bearing assembly. I have replaced four hub/bearing assemblies in less that 20K miles. At 125K miles I need to replace another assembly. Does someone make an improved design Hub & Bearing assembly I can buy?

Its easer with the hub and your not saving much because you need a big press to press the bearing in the hub

How to instal a rear bearing on a saturn veu 2002?auto repair

This would be a bolt on hub and bearing assembly. You will remove the wheel and the brake rotor or drum. Then unplug the abs sensor if equipped. Remove the axle nut if it's an all wheel drive (it is important to tighten the axle nut to the proper spec after replacing the bearing. Failure to properly torques the bearing will result in premature bearing failure). Remove the four bolts that hold the hub to the knuckle. Rmove the hub/bearing assembly.

Replacing rear hub/bearing assembly on 2003 taurus with drum brakes/abs

The wheel bearings in a Ford Taurus are located in the hub/bearing assembly. Replacing the hub/bearing assembly is a straightforward process -- remove the brakes, then the bearing, and reassemble.

Not enough space available for step by step instructions. Try this link:

I have a loud growling noise in front end of my 2003 saturn ion

most likely a front wheel hub bearing. You have to remove the bearing from the steering spindle and replace it.

Front wheel noise when driving. Louder the faster you go.

Raise the vehicle until one wheel is off the ground. Grab wheel by sides and wiggle - if it moves, you may have a bad wheel bearing. Also try rolling the wheel and listen closely - you should hear and feel a crunching or grinding noise which would confirm the wheel bearing. Lower vehicle and check the other side. Many newer vehicles have the bearing as part of the hub, requiring the replacement of the hub assembly to fix the bad bearing. Most others require a press to change out the bearing. It may be worthwhile to take it to a shop right away for a hands on diagnostic. Be careful driving it - the wheel bearing could potentially cause the wheel assembly to fall of the vehicle, injuring or killing yourself or others!!!

Have a 1998 awd mercury mountaineer and the front wheel bearing is going bad. Do I need to replace the whole assembly or just the bearing? ty

nowadays, mechanics can change an assembly and pay only $55 to $75 or up for the whole hub assembly complete with the abs wheel speed sensor.

The assembly comes with a new bearing. Otherwise, special knowledge and tools are required to press a new bearing on to the old hub, which probably is rusty.

So, it makes sense to change the whole hub assembly when the bearing goes bad, and many times get a lifetime warranty on the part..

Good luck on this one.

Can't pull out the hub bearing assembly on a 1993 Saturn SL

  1. Remove the steering knuckle assembly from the vehicle, as described earlier in this section.
  2. For 1991 vehicles, remove the 3 dust shield fasteners and separate the shield from the assembly.
  3. If equipped, remove the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) wheel speed sensor from the knuckle.
  4. Assemble wheel bearing removing tool SA9159S or equivalent using the hub driver, hub driver screw, bridge retainer and bridge. Install the tool to the knuckle and secure the assembly in a vise using the bridge as the vise contact point.
  5. Hold the hub driver with a wrench and tighten the hub driver screw to remove the hub. If the inner bearing race is pulled out with the hub, remove the race with a bearing race remover. The service tool can be used by assembling the inner race puller, 2 bridge retainer plates, 2 bolts and 2 flat washers.
  6. Inspect the hub at the bearing location for pitting, scoring or wear, and replace if necessary.
  7. Remove the assembly from the vise and remove the wheel hub removal tools.
  8. Remove the bearing retainer snapring.
  9. Position the knuckle in a shop press on the knuckle support tube, and press the bearing from the knuckle with a small driver.
  10. Inspect the knuckle bore for pitting, scoring, wear or corrosion. If damage cannot be easily cleaned with light sanding, the knuckle must be replaced.
