Drive cycles vary by manufacturer. It can be as simple as driving at highways speeds for a certain number of miles, or it can bea number of times the vehicle is started and warmed up, then turned off to cool down. A new car dealership service department may be able to tell you what the drive cycle is for your particular vehicle. Anytime you clear the computer on your vehicle, either by using a scanner, or removing power from the computer, you must go through the designated number of drive cycles to reset the computer diagnostics. It's a lousy system, and the auto industry should be required to conform to some kind of standard for all vehicles, regardless of make and model. But, for now, it's not clear exactly what you need to do to achieve the required drive cycles. If your inspection has expired, keep the documents you received when your vehicle failed the last test, just in case you get pulled over by the police.

Quick update: I found a website that gives instructions for the drive cycle. In your search box, type in "GM OBD drive cycle". The site has just about any info you would want on the OBD2 system.

I need to reset the drive cycle on my 2000/2001 Isuzu rodeo for MARTA inspection/testing. The Mechanic just keeps saying drive it and it will go off then be ready.

That's because your mechanic it too lazy to actually look up the drive cycle for your car and hand it to you so you can duplicate the drive. See this post on drive cycles.

I have a 2007 Toyota Corolla. Went for emissions test after replacing the battery and we failed the test. It showed 'Not Ready' because of the new battery.

You must perform an OBD2 drive cycle to make ready for testing.
Toyota Drive Cycle for Setting Smog Check Readiness Monitors
  • Fuel tank at 1/2.
  • Engine cold start idle for 10 minutes.
  • Drive at highway speed 55-60 mph with steady throttle for 16 minutes.
  • Return to idle for three minutes with engine running in park.
  • Drive again at medium speed 40 mph for eight minutes.
  • Return to idle for three minutes.
  • Repeat next day.

Failed inspection because monitor evap not ready and monitor secondary air not ready. do i have to drive a certain way in or to reset

You DO NOT go to inspection without either
working on all vehicles or at least use a professional
scanner to see if all 8 monitors have run

If they haven't run or you have a fault code after they run,
you fail inspection

So you get the Evap Codes, diagnose that system & it's components, until you find where a vacuum leak is or what
solenoid failed.

That is best done at a shop with a smoke machine & knowledge

Emission Monitors run on their own every few days

What your referring to is Drive Cycles after certain repairs
have been made

You don't do them either,a shop does before you get the car
back or they are useless & you don't go their, too technical
for you to do & the info has to be looked up

You need a clear piece of roadway with no traffic to to Drive
Cycles

Drive cycle

the reason it failed was you have a battery failure .. now that you have it charged and running drive vehicle 10 to 15 miles and try to get inspection again. the computer that does inspections tells the tech you have either disconnected battery or or dead one . if they gave you a print out it should tell you what codes came up and what it was.

How do i get rid of 5 not readys on my truck so icanget it inspecte?

The standard process is to go thru a drive cycle. You can do an internet search for the process to get the details.
Generally speaking, you have to drive the truck thru both highway and city driving while the engine is at operating temp and at different speeds. It takes anywhere from 50 to 100 miles to run all of the engine sensors thru the self- testing process.

How to reset the drive cycle on a 2001 lincoln towncar

Shouldn't have any issues just changing a battery on a lincoln

No drive cycle requires much in the way of any miles

Usually two runs to 60 & back to 35 without touching the brake
Something like that.

Normal driving you shouldn't even have to know anything about
drive cycles

When your not accepted at inspection you got other issues

The Evap System is the last to run on my lincoln & may only
do so every few days

Really need to look at professional scan tool data before
you go the inspection, to see that all monitors are clear or have run

Drive time computer reset

Drive cycle has to do with normal everyday type of driving. So many stops, so many miles, fast driving, slow driving. My car went thru a drive cycle in about 38 miles on my way to work. My daughters took 3 days and about 78 miles. So just drive it like normal.

What is the drive cycle or vehicle break in for 1999 Malibu After I changed the battery last week, I went to inspection today and failed

There isnt any drive cycle or break-in for a battery being changed out. You will need to take your fail slip to a service shop and see what caused the vehicle to fail inspection.
