I would have my transmission fluid and filter changed by a certified mechanic. You might be able to save your transmission if you get this done quickly enough.

Good luck

I have a 1989 suzuki sidekick when i put it in drive it drive a little and stop and no matter if i put in d2 or L it still wont drive

the 89( very old) sidekick;tracker/vitara,sunrunners.
all have a 3speed, relic trans there, its the old TH180 made since 1974 or older.
its has no electronics at all , but does have TCC lockup feature.
but this is not about TCC.
its a pure hyramatic trans, suz name 3L30.
does it work in reverse,?

1: check levels by the book, do not guess, its not checked like any engine. (lost the operators guide? ) we have one.
2: get it serviced with new fluid and filter yet?
3: check the shifter cable ,see if it is failing,?
sounds like it fails only hot, right?>?
hot oil can leak inside the box past worn seals, and fail.
if true that is a bad trans.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SKIPS ALSO FLUID GETS HOT AND I LOOSE 3rd&o-d

sorry but your trans has went out. 3rd and over drive are on same shaft with different control solenoids once fluid gets hot not enough pressure for gears to engage internal wear and tear of system . have trans rebuilt or rebuilt unit installed or good used trans. jaspers used trans are warranted you can find them on line.

After working on the transmission of my 1991 ford f250 my flywheel wont budge. Is there something I missed?

Did you get the tork converter in correctly, loosen up the converter and slide it into the transmission, should be a 1/4 to 3/4 inch clearance between flex and converter.
If it's a standard trans. take it out of gear

Transmission wont shift to second gear

The vacume hose on the vacume modulater on the trans mission is nt hooked to full engine vacume or the engine isn't making vacume. The governer will make the trans shift to second anyway at redline but it's preety hard on an old car to redline it just to find out/ It's possible that youv'e got the shift detent cable that hooks to the carb set too tight or it's stuck as if it's floored. with the cable disconnected it should shift out al the way real early as long as thirs vacume on the modulater. Gas mileage freaks that drive around slowly unhook th shift cale so the trans shifts into high gear real early. Not much for passing and acceleration but they get a little bit better gas mileage.

these transmissions had a problem with the piston in the trans cracking. when the fluid is cold and thicker it is ok, but when it gets hot and thin it cant hold the pressure and the clutch doesnt engage

Truck wont run after it gets hot

OK...I'm going to assume it's an automatic trans and it will not shift?
If so, first place I'd look is inside the trans pan. If the oil is severely burned and contaminated with either metal or clutch material, STOP there and get it to a trans shop for a rebuild. If discoloured and mildly contaminated, change filter and fluid, add a good conditioner and see if it helps. If it does nothing helpful after driving or testing/driving for an hour or two, likely it has either a control or internal pressure problem...again,,,work for a trans shop.

Transmission stops working when hot

You are probably having ATF bubbles flowing through your tranny either from overfill or by using cheap ATF / the wrong atf. Consider a drain and refill 3 times (driving for 5 minutes in between a drain and refill. This time only use dealship ATF and I guarantee you the problem will go away.
