97 f250 5.8 with no power

I bought a 97' with 170k and am pulling a 20' travel trailer. I would have thought it would have more power than it seems to have. Who might know why it seems "powerless". It runs down the road fine, but put a load behind it..........!!

We also have a 97 F250, runs fine without pulling anything but when you put a trailer on it, it acts like it has no power at all.

If it is a poerstroke they usually dont have as much get up and go in that year but if you put a small chip in it your power will increase dramatically and your fuel milage will go up i have mine at 22 on the highway

2003 f350 diesel a/c clutch stops when pulling heavy trailer

My first thought is the computer is doing it on purpose to save horsepower. Gas engines do this when the driver goes to wide open throttle. But it should not take more than a minute or two after you reach the top of the hill to resume.
I would check with Ford to see if the computer is programmed to do this. If it is normal it should come back as soon as you let off the gas pedal or the need for extra power is gone.
It may be tough to troubleshoot if you can't make it happen in a garage.

How should I prepare my durango to pull a 24 foot travel trailer...what class of hitch, do I need in-board electric trailer brake controls, etc.?

Hi Frank,
I have a Durango 2000 and pull a 24 foot ski boot loaded with equipment. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't try towing anything without the trailer brakes connected. I purchased the Titan Trailer brakes setup and they've never failed me once. The hitch: just make sure you get the right towing capacity for your travel trailer. I have the 5.9 liter engine, which allows up to 6500 pounds of towing capacity. Your owners guide will explain how many based on engine size.
Good Luck, and happy traveling.

Ford f350 4x4 7.3 powerstroke, lack of power. max out at 20-30mph when pulling hills with or without trailer, doesn't seem to know when to shift, sometimes will shift sometimes not. ?????

check the wiring harness and connectors to the boost sensor, if sensor is not reading the truck drops into safe mode, and drastically decreases engine power. the sensor is located on the intake manifold.

I think the tongue weight rating on the stock hitch is 600 lbs, so you are over that. You probably want to level out truck to handle better when towing, so the best way is to get air bag helper that raises the back end.

My tow vehicle pulls hard to the right while

I don't know what type or brand travel trailer you have but I would have the axle/axles checked to see if they may have shifted on the leaf springs causing the trailer to push to one side or another. Basically have the axle alignment checked on the trailer. Also check the spring shackles and bushings for damage and rot. And check the trailer brakes if equipped for dragging on one side more than the other.

2003 Dodge Ram 3500 left turn signal problems / trailer

Well let me shed some light on this issue. I have the same problem. Trailer connection from truck does not have power to left turn signal and left brake light. I just got back from the dealership and $100.00 labor charge. My problem is the TIPM (Fuse Box for short) and FCM (little silver module hooked to the Fuse Box on the left hand side of the fuse box). $910.00 for the parts and Chrysler doesn't have any in stock. 4-6 weeks to maybe fill a back order. I am currently researching an alternative way to fix this issue. I will let you know.
