If this light comes on, it indicate that the charging to the battery is not functioning. Could be alternator problem. If the light on and goes off, check if the engine RPM is too low.

Battery light on new battery new alternator charging

Could be a wiring problem. The light goes out once the alternator is charging - the alternator then cuts off the ground for the warning light.
The warning light could be grounding thru a different circuit.

Battery ok alt new battery light stays on

The light means the alternator is not charging the battery. Once the charging circuit is completed, the warning light looses its ground connection.
You may need to double check the circuit going from the alternator to the battery, or the warning light circuit going to the alternator as it could be shorted to ground.

Noticed battery and brake light on my 01 montero sport lxs. Was told I need a new alternator. My car never died nor had a problem starting. Is there another reason for those two lights to be on?

As a first step to checking make sure your battery is full of electrolyte and give it a full charge to see if that causes the battery light to go out. The two lights may not be connected to alternator fault. If, when the battery is full charged, the battery light goes out and stay out you will have got to the bottom of the issue. You need to do this as soon as possible because the brake warning light is a major issur, If charging the battery cures the battery warning light but not the brake light then you have a brake problem.
If charging the battery puts both lights out and they stay out then it is probably as the garage argues.....there is no reason for a lrake light to go out if no brake work has been done.
You are o a path of investigation that must be carried out quickly in case the brake warning light is a valid warning.
Wouldn't drive too far or fast till you have resolved the matter

good luck

Check your battery charging rate. A possible alternator or battery failure.
If the battery is charging at around 14volts, then replace the battery.
If its charging anywhere below 13.5, then replace the alternator.

This sounds like a bad alternator , maybe it charges at times and other times it does not, check connections to battery and at alternator, also make sure all fuse are good.

Battery and brake light on

For some reason the brake warning light and battery light are connected, so either system could be having problems.
The battery warning light could mean the battery is not being charged, and the brake warning light could mean you are low on brake fluid.
I would start with the check engine light and see what the codes are.

88 Izusu Trooper II with 274000 miles Battery warning light comes on when first starting and running- after driving awhile, it goes off and starts charging- also during the warning period- the blower

Sounds like your battery isn't charging properly, first thing to check, is your alternator belt slipping, is it tight enough, if so does it need replacing?

Next the battery, if its over 2 years old it could be on its way out. Does it hold its charge?

Finally, Alternator, is it still providing a charge for the battery? Are all electrical connections good and clean?

Battery warning light was on this morning , and for several miles altrnated between being on and off. After several miles it got dimmer and finally turned off. Car seemed to run all right though.

Replace the battery. The batter is on it's last leg and is about to die. The reason the light went off is because as you drive, the alternator provides charge to the battery. So the further you go, the more charged the battery becomes. That said, if the Battery warning light was on when you started the car, and you had not left any interior lights on over night, then the battery is losing charge rapidly or is not holding a charge.

ABS malfunction warning light on Airbag malfunction warning message Battery not charging Message No power steering battery totally flat

This time of year alot of batteries fail because of the cold but a bad battery will not turn on the charging light. This usually only occurs when the alternator isnt charging. When the battery drains enough its possible thats why you have these other issues.
Codes only set when the computer does not see the correct voltages

Warning lights stay on

Hi,

Brake light warning indicates possible low brake fluid in the reservoir;

Charge warning light indicates battery not charging which can be caused by defective alternator/regulator, slipping belt, corroded fusible link from alternator to battery B+ terminal.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
