remove wheel on side. remove brake caliper/brakes, disconnect lower ball joint, remove axle shaft hub nut. push axle out of hub, then pull half shaft out of transmission. install reverse.
if you have a semi-floating axle ie an axle that the axle bearing is pressed on you have to remove the wheel, remove caliper if disc brakes and remove a retaining plate that holds the axle bearing in position. pull out the axle and the seal will be left in the axle housing. Replace and reverse procedures. If you have a full floating axle you have to remove the axle from the hub undo tha axle bearing nuts amnd if disc remove caliper or if drum pull the hub of the axle. The seal will be in the back of the hub as in a truck. you will need some mechanical knowledge so if you are unsure get a mechanic to advise you
Raise the vehicle so that the wheel to be worked on is clear of the floor and install jackstands under the vehicle.
Remove the wheel. Remove the three retaining nuts and remove the brake drum. It may be necessary to back off the brake shoe adjustment in order to remove the brake drum. This is because the drum might be grooved or worn from being in service for an extended period of time.
Before installing a new brake drum, be sure to remove any protective coating with brake cleaner or a suitable fast-drying degreaser.
Install the brake drum in the reverse order of removal and adjust the brakes.
Heavy Duty
Raise the vehicle and install jackstands.
Remove the wheel. Loosen the rear brake shoe adjustment.
Remove the rear axle retaining bolts and lockwashers, axle shaft, and gasket.
Remove the wheel bearing locknut, lockwasher, and adjusting nut.
Remove the hub and drum assembly from the axle.
Remove the brake drum-to-hub retaining screws, bolts or bolts and nut. Remove the brake drum from the hub.
To install:
Place the drum on the hub and attach it to the hub with the attaching nuts and bolts.
Place the hub and drum assembly on the axle and start the adjusting nut.
Adjust the wheel bearing nut and install the wheel bearing lockwasher and locknut.
Install the axle shaft with a new gasket and install the axle retaining bolts and lockwashers.
Install the wheel and adjust the brake shoes. Remove the jackstands and lower the vehicle.
hub is on the axle shaft so the center cover will have to be removed to remove the c ring that keeps it in place. then remove the axle shaft having the wheel and drum off first
you must remove brakes, then remove axle nut, then remove upper control arm and finally tie rod stabilizer, remove axle from car then bearing can be accessed. this is a difficult job that requires special tools so be careful
