2000 jaguar s-type turns over but will not start

  • tvizzo Dec 25, 2008

I have the same problem. I have a brand new battery and have checked the plugs. It doesn't sound like the fuel pump is kicking on. I may check for a switch in the trunk that kicks the fuel pump off.

Sounds like you have a bad sending unit depending on the type of vehicle the sending unit is part of the fuel pump assembly The sending unit is what controls you fuel gauge If the assembly is bad your vehicle won't start

Turns over wont start

If it turns over but will not start then it is either fuel or spark missing. That is where to start looking. When the timing belt breaks a perfectly running vehicle, before, will just crank over and over without catching.

The car turns over but wont start. the power turns on. how do i know if its the ignition switch or the starter?

if vehicle turns over and engine cranks then its not either of what you stated ,now if this is a older golf or polo then look at the ignition coil as these havfe a built in ignition module and these coils crack and pack up and if it is a older vehicle then could be your problem

96 ford Windstar turns over but wont start, also turning ignition to the start point i have to re-grip ignition once again to turn vehicle over normally,i just turn key once it clicks then starts.it's...

I have worked on a similar problem with one of these vans. You either have spark or fuel issues if the engine turns over. I would say jugging by that it will start after long cranks that it might be fuel related and you should have the vans fuel pressure checked to see if it is in range and not weak.If it is security related a light would flash for that. You can easily figure out if it is fuel related by spraying carb cleaner in the hose where the are filter is but be careful not to spray on the mass air flow sensor. I hope this points you in the right direction.

My theft light is flashing but my 1997 expedition wont start. The vehicle turns over but just don't start.

ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM Passive anti-theft system
Your ignition key has a unique imbedded transponder which engages engine electronics and allows the vehicle to be started. Without the use of your special ignition key, the vehicle will not start.

During each vehicle start, the coded key is read by the anti-theft system. If the key’s ID code matches the code in the anti-theft system, the vehicle is enabled to start.

Anti-theft system
Briefly illuminates when the ignition is turned to the ON position to verify that the passive anti-theft system is operating properly.

Also, its possisble that tou have actovated the fuel pump switch.

CHeck it.

Car wont start, changed ecm, plugs, started but died, what should i do

After you put in the ecu, do the crank relearn, and you're good to go.
Ensure that your battery is fully charged before attempting the relearn procedure. Do not leave any battery charger or jumper cables attached to the battery. Close the hood completely. Some applications require that the doors remain closed during the procedure.

1. Rotate the key to the start position to attempt to start the vehicle (the vehicle will not start).
Allow the key to return to the all position (same as if the vehicle would have started). The theft system light will flash (or stay lit) on the dash for approximately 10 minutes.
2. When the theft system telltale stops flashing (or turns oft) turn the key to the off position for 5 seconds and then attempt tostart the vehicle. The vehicle should start on this cycle.
3. Once the vehicle is running, the password relearn is complete.

4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes.
5. On the next cycle of turning the ignition key from off to crank the vehicle should start
6. Once the vehicle is running, the password is learned and this completes the cycle.
7. Clear any DTC's with a scan tool if necessary. DTC history will be cleared after 100 ignition cycles.
