2004 mazda mpv

Whenever it rains heavily and i am driving, the mazda starts to gerk and a little while after engine lights starts to blink sometime it stays on, sometimes i can't go over 40 miles other  times when i park it up overnight starts up fine next morning. i'm, not sure what's happening someone told me try map sensor or maybe mass flow sensor, i don't want to spend a whole lot of money to fix what doesn't need fixing. i think water is getting in somewhere causing this cause like i said only happens when raining. also when this happens i start burning alot of gas and i also smell fumes.pls help

I have the same poblem. However, I have scamnned it and the scanner said it was a #3 coil. I replaced it same problem. When it runs for a while it gets warm it srarts to **** the van.Don't know where to go from here.

I have had the exact same problem for over 1 year. I suspect after conversing with different people that moisture is getting to a coil and causing problems. I think mazda should have a recall to fix this but I don't think there is any way to force them. I owned a mazda 626 before I bought this Most Problematic Vehicle and it was great (wish I had never sold it). Now I will probably never own another mazda again. I have not replaced the coil because I don't think it will fix the problem. I wonder if there is some way to seal it from moisture?

I don't have a solution to the problem, but Mazda should. I have replaced 3 different ignition coils in the last 3 months. I am spending more on repairs than I was in a car payment. Mazda has been no help at all!

Also have a 04 MPV with the same problem. Happened last year also. it's one of the ignition coils. Must be a design flaw from the factory as somehow moisture get into the coil and causes missfiring. Coil costs about $77 from Mazda (CAN).

When rains heavily and driving vehicle starts to gerk and engine lights starts to blink.

The most likely cause is a broken seal, usually around the windshield, which is allowing water to leak into the electrical components under the dash.

2004 mazda mpv engine racing and cooling fan not working

coolant temp sensor tells the computer how hot or cold the engine is so it can regulate the idle and fuel mixture, when it fails there usually is no cooling fan and you will have trouble starting the engine and keeping it running.

2004 Mazda MPV makes loud sound when driving faster than about 60 km/hr

There is no way to estimate cost until you know the exact case of the noise. See the dealer for a test drive so a tech can listen to it.

The check engine light comes on in the rain and the engine will stall and run rough.

You have moisture getting into the ignition. The check engine light is coming on because the engine is stumbling. You can have a local detail shop detail and seal/waterproof your engine compartment

I have a Mazda 2001 MPV, just had service for o2 sensor and now the check engine light is blinking .

blinking light means engine is misfiring. continuing to drive will severely damage the engine. The O2 should not be related to your engine misfiring

My Mazda MPV randomly begins to "chug" and act like it will die at a stop. the check engine light comes on. Started about 6 months ago. Seems to happen more when it rains. If I tighten the gas cap it stops...

the gas cap and check engine light thing are related in terms of the EVAP system, or the evaporative emisions system. This is NOT where your surge, or "chug" is coming from. The surge could be coming from a Exhaust Gas Recurculation valve that is starting to bind or "hang up" a bit. DO you notice this happens more at lights, or when coming to a stop? if so it could be an idle air control vavle.

their is no cpu in a van, their is an ecu, and that should be taken care at dealer. they must have a repair depot, or a certified area to get it repaired...
if its the check engine light, well if all fluids are fine, and it runs its ok... just go to a local garage they should be able to shut it off... have you replaced the intake filter?, run some cleaner through the system, looked around for some loose or messed up wiring around the firewall ?

Engine light blinking in my Mazda MPV

A BLINKING ENGINE LIGHT INDICATES AN ENGINE CYLINDER IS MIS-FIRING. HAVE THE TROUBLE CODES TESTED TO DETERMINE WHICH ONE. DO NOT DRIVE THIS WAY AT HIGH SPEEDS AS IT MAY OVERHEAT THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND CREATE A FIRE HAZARD.
