When trying to start my Nissan Max with a fully charged battery, I hear a click when I turn the key to the on position, then another click right before I start it. While trying to start it, it makes the cranking sound like it wants to start but is just not getting enough gas. The battery had run down almost completely so we took it in to have it charged. The battery is less than 1 year old, so we have a problem with something causing the battery to drain. Had the alternator checked and that is not it.

Could be a lot of things in this model car. Be more specific. Is the cranking fast or slow, does it crank and stops cranking and makes this weird noise?? This model A32 had some issues with that. give me more info and lets see if we can get you back on the road.

My 95 maxima was just cuttn out on me and would go dead but usually move battery cables a little and it would crank, however we changed cable ends on battery, crank it and dtove doen the road, it went dead...

Battery went dead? If this is the case you probably have a dead short.Should pull starter possibly bad solinoid, My old Maxima had caused me similar issue, if you pull starter it usually can be tested at a local Auto parts store. In a vehicle that fails to start, the common problems are the starter solenoid and the starter motor. The starter assembly can be quickly pulled from a 1995 Nissan Maxima, and then can be further separated to replace one part of the starter assembly. The process does not require any special tools, and can be done by novice mechanics

I have a 1995 nissan maxima. It wont start. Replaced the starter. Battery is fully charged. What else could it possibly be?

hi there does the engine crank ,if not check the transmission neutral safety switch
trans switch keeps the engine from starting in gear if defective it will not let the starter engage
the switch is mounted on transmission housing it has two plugs mack shore that it is plugged

Does not start. the startter doe not even clkick.

Check with battery tester that battery is good. If it is not, you will get only light power but not cranking power. If you have a bad starter relay or your cable connections are not metal to metal contact will also cause this to happen. Check connections on solenoid and take a screwdriver and jump screwdriver across solenoid terminals to see if starter turnns over. Power must be on.

Where is my drain coming from?

I would suggest investing in an inexpensive digital mutimeter and do some testing.  Hook it in-line with the hot cable from the battery.  You want to be reading amps, not volts.  That should give you a reading immediately of some current being used.  While it's hooked up, start pulling fuses, one at a time.  if that doesn't stop the current draw, replace it and pull the next one.  Eventually you'll find the circuit that is drawing down your battery.  From there, you have to check individual items in that circuit.
good luck.

Check the battery cables for corrosion by peeling back the insulation a few inches. Probably all green or white dust. replace the cables

Car: Nissan Maxima SE 1997 tachometer broken

the dash voltage egulator probably went bad. First, check the battery & make sure you have 12 volts, not running. Check it again running & you should see about 14.5 volts. If that's good,I'd replace the guage assembly.
