  • rhazzi72 Oct 05, 2008

I was turning the corner @ aprox. 10 miles an hour and once i completed my turn the engine just shut down. No sputters no warning!! I tried to get the car to start with no luck ,it sounded like it wannted to but it just did not want to turn over.

Ocassionally the engine will sound like it's out of gas but I just filled it up yesterday. Drove the truck during the day with no problem and then when I wanted to go somewhere it wouldn't start. Again,it sounds like it's out of gas. 4th time this happened but the mechanic down the block checked it when I got it running and couldn't find anything.

Check the timing belt... and check the fuse for the fuel pump... it's usually under the hood... and most likely... it's a 15 amp fuse, my cousin has a 2004 montana... and well... his wouldn't start either... come to find out... all 10 wires going to the fuel pump were either eaten by his dogs... or field rats, any way... to make a long story short... i stripped... spliced... and taped them as best as i could, i told him to turn it over... no go... come to find out there's a fuse for the fuel pump... luckly... the horn had the same 15 amp fuse... i took it out... popped it in where the fuel pump fuse was... and it's ran ever since... so check the all fuse boxes for a fuel pump fuse. good luck man

Just replaced the fuel pump in my 03 Toyota Matrix, car still doesn't want to turn over. What else could be the problem?

Explain doesn't want to turn over ? If the engine cranks when key is turned to the start position . You have a cranks but won't start an run condition . When you say it won't turn over , we as automotive technicians think the engine won't do anything when the key is turned to the start position. We don't just replace parts with out doing testing on the electrical circuit for the fuel pump , an hook up a fuel pressure gauge to test fuel pressure . It has to have spark , fuel an compression for the engine to start an run . Also the anti-theft system can't have any problems . Is there a security light lit on the Dash ? I think you had the same problem that my aunt had with her Cavalier. The fuel pump
failed. Grandfather installed an aftermarket fuel pump and it worked fine. I hope this
is the solution. (As a side note, I think you were losing prime through the pump).

Car will turn over but won't start. Through the

No noise from fuel pump when you turn over the car .First thing get voltage at fuel pump relay checked, is there 12 volt to the relay. If no, then problem is again the relay.--------- To reconfirm the problem, try other test, that is remove the relay and by pass the relay terminals with a jumper wire .Then with 12 volt external battery give power to fuel pump connector and see, if the fuel pump starts, then its clear that fuel pump relay is faulty.----------- Also other problem can be fuel pump inertia switch. If the inertia switch is faulty then also fuel pump will not start.-------- The fuel pump relay on a 1995 Ford Explorer is in the power distribution
box, in the engine compartment, driver's side near the firewall.----------
The fuel pump inertia switch is in the right front passenger area
it is below the dash but above the carpet in the right hand corner.--------
Its a push button type inertia switch.
--------
Fuel Pump Activation
When ignition switch is turned to START position, PCM operates fuel pump relay to provide fuel for starting engine. PCM senses engine speed and shuts off fuel pump by opening ground circuit to fuel pump relay when engine stops or engine speed drops to less than 120 RPM. When ignition switch is in ON position, EEC power relay is energized (contacts closed). Power is provided to fuel pump relay and timer in PCM. Fuel pump receives power through fuel pump relay contacts.
Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) Switch
All models use an electrical interrupt switch in fuel system. During a collision or vehicle rollover, electrical contacts within inertia switch open, shutting off fuel supply to electric fuel pump. Fuel supply is interrupted even when engine is running.
A reset button is located on switch assembly. If electrical circuit trips, vehicle will not restart until switch is reset. Fuel system should be inspected before resetting switch.
IFS switch is located under instrument panel, near right side of transmission hump.
----------- If the fuel pump relay, the inertia switch and fuel pump all checked ok, and fuel pump is working with direct 12 volt source to fuel pump. Then problem relates to computer. The computer (power control module, PCM) is faulty and has to be replaced.--------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

I have a gas 96 chevy C2500. Wen I try to start it I hear the fuel pump and starter but doesn't start it usualy takes a few try. What could be wrong?

Bad fuel pressure regulator. Pull the vacuum line to it and see if it has fuel in it. If it has that is your problem.

Looking at what I believe to be a fuel pump issue. The starter and the engine turn over, but no gas is getting to the engine. Fuel filter and other related parts? Maybe....however in all of the Chevy...

If you dont hear the fuel pump it either is not getting power or the pump is not working.Sometime you can use your fist and hit plastic fuel tank and get ti to come on..Remember the fuel relay will only let the pump run 2 to 5 seconds if the engine dosent start

hi from uk let's not think negative waves? and just go back to basic process of eliminating ? what simple causes could be wrong ? if engine fired up then died? could be ignition fault or fuel supply? have you got spark when engine turns over ? if so check fuel ? is fuel pump working/delivering to engine ? from what you described engine did fire but died ? and now turns over but no attempt to start if fuel pump failed ? engine would normally start initially but die when fuel is used up in carb or efi system if you suspect cambelt/chain has failed you would have heard noise as pistons hit valves ?? then when you turn engine over ? it would spin faster with lack of compression does this make sense to your theory? i would think positive and do these diy checks as mentioned above first you may find fault yourself without spending $$$$$s for garage to charge for same checks?
