Re: I HAVE A 2000 DODGE STRATUS WAS DRIVING FINE DIDNT...
If the timing belt went or slipped you would have backfiring or worse. It is likely another issue such as cap/rotor, control module, sensor(s) or fuel pump. Is the check engine light on?
Make two or three attempts to start. If it fails to start raise the hood and check for a strong odor of gasoline if the odor is there it indicates the coolant temperature sensor has failed causing the engine to flood.Make two or three attempts to start. An engine needs 3 things to run...air, fuel, and compression....but they also need to happen at the correct time. If you have verified that the engine not only has enough fuel pressure to operate the injectors, but that the injectors are firing. That all of the spark plugs are getting fire, and that each of the cylinders have enough compression to run. I would think you have to check your timing marks.
you may have had a timing belt brake. this usually happens under a load. I've seen this a few times,if you are between 80,000 and 100,000 miles or higher and the timing belt has not been changed. (a way to tell if it is the timing belt is to remove a valve cover and crank the engine if the rockers don't move the crank is not turning the cam/cams and its probably a broken timing belt) it may be that, or it may be an issue with the ignition/spark system if your getting fuel at the engine.i hope this helps
if your check engine light does not go on when you have the key on engine off then you should check first the fuse box for the shut down fuse under the hood next to the battery if the fuses are ok then check the shut down relay on the cover of fuse box you can see which is the shut down relay remove the relay and with a test light connected to ground with the key on engine off you should have to terminals turn on your test light if not then your problem could be pcm if you get light on two then check for the relay it may be faulty but your check engine light should turn on when you have key on engine off good luck
is it a 4 or 6 cylinder?
