Remove the oil pan and replace the seal. You might have to jack up the engine to clear the cross member. Just pay attention how the other gasket is on. Ask more questions if this was not clear enough.

How to replace gasket on oil pan for 1987 dodge pickup

  1. Wear eye protection. There is nearly 30 years worth of accumulated must, gunk, etc under that truck. It will fall and find its way into your eyes. Do not skip this part.
  2. Drain oil from engine
  3. Prepare to catch the oil pan when it comes free from the housing. Use a friend is the best method. If you are under it, it will fall on your face and it will hurt.
  4. Remove all traces of the old seal from the housing under the truck and from the oil pan itself. Do not save time on this step, completely remove the old seal.
  5. Install the new seal according to the instructions included with the seal or from the place you purchased the seal. Usually, I install the seal on the pan.
  6. Lift the pan into place and prepare to hold it while you thread the bolts to reattach. If you are under it and it falls or your arms give out it will fall on your face and it will hurt.
  7. Follow the instructions regarding how tight and in what order to replace the bolts.
  8. Replace engine oil. Go ahead and replace the filter and do a complete oil change.
  9. Check engine oil level add more oil if needed.
  10. Wait 10 minutes
  11. Check engine oil level add more oil if needed.
  12. If oil is at appropriate level, start the engine and let it idle until warm.
  13. Turn engine off
  14. Inspect for oil leaks.
  15. Wait 10 minutes
  16. Check engine oil level add more oil if needed.
  17. If the appropriate amount of oil is in the engine and there are no leaks, enjoy driving that truck!

1992 Ford Crown Victoria Oil Pan is leaking. Is this a major problem to replace? Fred

It is recommended that you lift out the engine before attempting to replace the oil pan. Once the engine is lifted you can remove the bolts, remove the pan, clean all the old gasket material.
Installation: Remove the rear main bearing cap oil seal Remove the timing cover oil seal Clean all the mating surfaces and seal grooves Install new oil pan front cover seals Install a new rear main bearing cap oil seal Install new oil pan side gaskets on the block Make sure the tabs of the front and rear seal fit properly as these are critical spots Attach the oil pan to the engine block and install the retaining bolts

I was told I have to replace the crankshaft seal and oil pan gasket on my 2000 chevy malibu and will cost approx. $380.00. Also is the rear main seal the same thing as the crankshaft seal??? Thanks!

Well sometimes.... the front crankshaft seal is usually called a crank seal, or the front timing cover seal but the rear crank seal is (usually) called the Rear Main crank seal. In order to replace the rear seal , the transmission will need to be removed. If its the front, then the harmonic balancer will be removed. $380 sounds cheap. As you will need a oil seal, oil pan gasket, oil, filter, labor and tax. Maybe even a lower engine mount.

I have a dent in my oil pan, which seems to be causing a leak. Do i need to replace or is there a way to repair without replacing?

Most likely you just need to replace the Oil pan seal. A dent normally doesn't cause a leak. If the pan is cracked then yea, you will have to replace the pan. If it is leaking around the seal area it may have been knocked loose when you hit what ever dented your pan to begin with.

How do you replace a gasket and cover for timing chain and rear seal gasket for oil pan on a 1978 Chevy 350 motor

the oil pan will need to be removed to repalce the rear seal, so replace the front seal and gasket then, replace the timing chain/gears if sloppy, then reinstall the oil pan.
