1992 Cherokee 4.0. Driving home from work. Engine died. Towed car home. Fuses good. No spark plug or coil spark. No fuel pressure at rail.

Symptoms: just died, as if running out of fuel. Two problems. No spark & no fuel pressure.

Installed new CPS (crank) no go.

Under hood fuses .. all light up test probe okay.

Dash lights, radio, all those work fine.

No alternator light when key is turned on.

Maintenance Required light been on a few days.

Tried on/off/on the switch .. get Check AntiLock light. only fast flickered.

Fuel pump...turn key ON ... no pressure UP at fuel pump. Rail fuel pressure is ZERO.

Change the fuel pump. Cost ~$200. Youll need to drop the gas tank. ~4hour job

Do you have spark at the plugs? Have you checked actual fuel pressure KOEO? Have you used a noid light to check for injector pulse?

My honda acty 1988 sometimes wont start and other times it starts 1st or second time.

If all tune up items are good, you may have a weak coil, bad ignition module, failing fuel pump, etc. Run tests when failing, such as fuel pressure, spark check for nice fat blue spark, compression test. Are valves set correctly? Has engine got high miles?

Turns over but does not start

First thing you can do do is spray a little carburetor cleaner in the throttle body if it start you a fuel problem if it doesn't start you have an ignition problem go to autozone buy a cheap noid light remove the injector harness install the noid light crank the engine if the noid light blinks your ok as far as computer also get and old spark plug check for spark while cranking if you have spark igintion system ok ck fuel pressure might have a clogg up fuel filter good luck

I have a 95 suzuki sidekick jx and it wont start. it tries sometimes but wont start. it has good spark, 180psi compression, has fuel, timing is good. if i hold the throttle wide open it will start and run...

My first guess would be a leaking fuel pressure regulator or a problem with the injector grounds. The injectors may be "on" too much.
Is the check engine light on when you can get it running ?

Sometimes my car starts and sometimes it does not. everything is on in my car but engine won"t turn over. i let it sit for a long period of time and it starts. what could be worg with it?

The first thing I'd suspect would be the distributor cap & rotor, but my 2003 PT Cruiser manual says:

1 - Inspect Fuel Injector Pressure Regulator --- Faulty Fuel Injector Pressure Regulator.
2 - Inspect Carburetor Float --- Faulty Choke Float.
3 - Inspect Choke Pulloff --- Faulty Choke Pulloff.
4 - Inspect Choke Thermostat --- Stuck or Improperly Functioning Choke Thermostat.
5 - Inspect Fuel Injector Cold Start Valve --- Damaged or Faulty Cold Start Valve.
6 - Inspect Spark Plugs --- Fouled Spark Plugs.
7 - Inspect Relay - Fuel Pump --- Faulty Fuel Pump Relay.
8 - Inspect PCV Valve --- Plugged or Damaged PCV Valve.
9 - Inspect Carburetor --- Choke Not Operating.

Car will shutdown while driving. Sometimes will

The OBD II is used for emissions systems only for the most part. You did not say if it was cranking over or not. If it is cranking over then you need to see if it's a fuel pump problem or a spark problem. First turn the key on and listen for fuel pump to run for to seconds,if you here it then check that you have fuel at the fuel pressure port, looks like a bicycle tire valve pull the cap off and push the center valve pin in. Do this only on a cold engine if gas comes out it has fuel pressure. Next pull a spark plug wire off and check for spark by cranking engine over, do these procedures when it won't start. if you have no spark then it's electrical and will need more information to what to check first. If you have no fuel pressure then you will have to test fuel pump pressure to see if it will pressurize and if it will hold pressure to 60 PSI

I can start the car but it takes sometime 3 to 4 times to get it started? I wasnt sure if its the spark plugs that need to be changed or what it is?

More than likely it is the fuel pump going out and it takes a few tries to prime the fuel system, I would perform a fuel pressure test when its cold and has been sitting and see if it takes along time to build pressure..

My 2002 full size chevy engine turns over but will not start. this happens randomly because the last two times it happened, it eventually started up with no repair. i switched the ignition control module,...

Remove a spark plug, plug it into the spark plug wire, attach a jumper wire from the hook of spark plug to ground and have an assistant turn over the engine while you check for spark, If spark is present check for the presence of fuel pressure at the fuel rail, there is an access valve, if you can't aquire a pressure tester wear safety glasses unscrew schrader protective cap exposing the access valve on the fuel rail with key on press in on the pin in valve like you would to drain air from a tire, be careful because the line is pressurized and gas should squirt out possibly at your face I prefer using a screw on gauge. If fuel pressure (30-40 psi) is present, then look for bad connections to sensors and fuel injectors pull of the electrical plugs on sensors and injectors and reattach sometimes this does wonders sometimes nothing, but as you know intermittent electrical problems can be the most difficult to solve on these newer engines.

Ok we have to find out whats missing when it dies. Meaning is it spark or fuel, you are going to need some equipment to diagnose this you will need a spark tester or something to verify spark to the spark plugs. and a fuel pressure guage to see if you have fuel pressure when its "dead"
you cannot find out whats wrong if its running you have to wait until it WILL NOT START then do your diagnostics, get everything ready and wait for it to fail and hook up your spark tester and try to start it and see if you have spark on at least 3 cylinders at least one on each bank, if you have spark fine. if not let me know.
If you have spark and it will still not start check fuel pressure it must be at least 38 PSI and reach that reading within 1 second as soon as you turn on the ignition.
If you have fuel pressure and spark while it WILL NOT START then wemove to test the computers ability to pulse the fuel injectors but lets cross that bridge when we come to it.

email me at fixincars@yahoo.com with the results of the testing.
