Check the vacuum lines going to egr. An intake cleaning may also help.

SOURCE: P0401 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient

check the metal line that comes off the exhaust and make sure it isnt plugged with carbon. also remove the egr and check the port and see it's clogged as well

SOURCE: emission test gives a p0401 code : exhaust gas

yes it is something to do with the egr
it could be the egr, dpfe, vacuum leak or wiring
best bet is to bring it to the dealer to have it properly diagnosed
so your not changing unnecessary parts

SOURCE: PO401 EGR , the ECM has detected too little flow

The EGR valve is towards the firewall and looks like a flying saucer with either a vacuum hose or electrical connectors attached to it.EGR stands for exhaust gas regulator. So this item has to be connected to your exhaust manifold. During engine operations in order to cool off combustion temperatures this valve opens and permits exhaust gases into combustion chamber.
Your code is saying that its passage way is clogged ,the valve is either stuck closed ,the vacuum or electrical system that control it are defective. I recommend you get the repair manual for this vehicle there are several types of EGR valves and the testing procedure are different for each one. If your good with a voltmeter than getting the manual for this vehicle is gonna save you a fortune.
The easiest thing to do when you locate the valve is to remove it, use gun out and spray the passage way it sits on . Then clean the valve itself. If it has a vacuum port hook it up to a vacuum pump and see if it holds vacuum ( about 3-5 hg's) and its pintel moves. if it does than valve is ok. Then replace gasket and install valve. If valve has electrical connectors then clean passage and valve replace gasket and install valve.Your gonna have to go to Autozone again to have them erase code before you know for sure you repaired the item. Good luck

Testing all the related components is the only way to know whats bad/ good. The valve may be bad? stuck? passages clogged? You can do it yourself if you have a manual and a voltmeter to check the solenoid, sensor ? You may be better off having a shop check it, that spend money guessing.

I have a Ford F-150 xlt 4.6 with a p0401 code.

code p 0401 refers to exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system---insufficient flow detected==== causes ---hose leak/blockage, basic setting not carried our (if applicable)---wiring---EGR valve ---EGR solenoid ---ECM
when you have done everything make sure that you use a scan tool to reset the ECM
Items that you haven't mentioned are wiring and substituting the ecm with a known operational one
bad wiring and connections / ground , broken in side the insulation may cause the problem as well

How to fix P0302 and P0401 error codes for Lincoln Town Car 2001?

code p 0302 i cylinder 2 --misfire detected ===causes --- engine mechanical fault ( valve seat insert loose , burnt valve , cam followers/ hydraulic followers faulty)---wiring---ignition/fuel system---injector--ECT/MAF sensor ---ECM
possible injector fault ( blocked tip)
code p 0401 refers to exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system--insufficient floe detected ==== causes --hose leak/ blockage ---basic setting not carried out (if required)---wiring---EGR valve ---EGR solenoid ---ECM
as you admit to knowing little about cars , take it to an accredited service center that works on your make of vehicle and get a proper diagnosis and quote
Use the codes information and causes I have given you when discussing the problem

Diagnostics code po401 honda passport not shifting

code p 0401 refers to exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR) system insufficient flow detected ====causes --hose leak/blockage --basic setting not carried out (if applicable)--wiring--EGR valve --EGR solenoid---ECM
has little to do with not shifting unless the leak is affecting the vacuum actuator for the transmission
so check for vacuum leaks in hoses in the engine bay

Trouble code P0401

code p0401 refers to exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) system-insufficient flow detected--- Causes ---hose leak/blockage, basic setting not carried out( if applicable)wiring--EGR valve/solenoid---ECM I would check the EGR valve solenoid first. Replace the faulty units with genuine one because most aftermarket units are not set for OEM cpu units and are not completely
compatible.

P 1401 location

Codes don't have a certain location, a code means a problem has occurred in a system of the electronics of the cars fuel control or emission control system.
P1401 NISSAN - EGR Temperature SensorPossible causes- EGR Temperature Sensor harness is open or shorted
- EGR Temperature Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty EGR Temperature Sensor
- Malfunction of EGR function, EGRC-BPT valve or EGRC-solenoid valve
- Blocked EGR passages When is the code detected? An excessively low voltage from the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensor is sent to Engine Control Module (ECM) even when engine coolant temperature is low, or an excessively high voltage from the EGR temperature sensor is sent to ECM even when engine coolant temperature is high.
P1401 NISSAN Description The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensor detects temperature changes in the EGR passage way. When the EGR valve opens, hot exhaust gases flow, and the temperature in the passage way changes. The EGR temperature sensor is a thermistor that modifies a voltage signal sent from the Engine Control Module (ECM). This modified signal then returns to the ECM as an input signal. As the temperature increases, EGR temperature sensor resistance decreases.
This sensor is not used to control the engine system. It is used only for the on board diagnosis

I have a 1998 dodge stratus and the code 403 egr flow cicuit malfunction comes up how can i fix this problem so i can pass inspection

Check all vacuum lines to the EGR valve, the EGR valve is between the intake and the exhaust, EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirulator valve. It must be able to flow properly in order to pass emissions anyway if they do a smog test.

CODE P0401 COMEING UP

I had an OBD II 401 code and fixed it by cleaning out the EGR vacuum line in the intake manifold. I removed teh EGR Valve and the set screw below it. i used a rifle cleaning brush and one length of the rod. Then I replaced teh set screw. I started teh engind and let the vacuum **** some carb cleaner through the front port hole. when it was sucking good I replaced teh EGR valve and reset the codes. That fixed it.8_26_2012_9_39_13_pm.jpg
