Question about 2000 Honda Accord
Posted on Oct 25, 2008
Had the same problem with a 2000 Accord EX. The driver door would not open no matter what. Had to pry open the inside panel; prop it open so I could work on the latch mechanism. It turns out the latch locking rocker mechanism that latches with the D-ring bolted to the side of the door frame got stuck and would not release (the mechanism is spring loaded). Ended up drilling out the hardened steel bolts that hold the latch mechanism to the door frame and drilled out the entire plastic latch assembly in order to gain access to the actual latch lever. I then took a flathead screwdriver and lifted the latch while pushing the door from the inside. The entire job was extremely timing consuming and requires a ton of patience. Not sure if your 1991 has the same lock assy as the 2000...but I would guess it would be close. Recommend you take the passenger (other open door) panel off and study how that latch is assembled and how best to gain access and drill out the failed one. Good luck!!! You can do the job...no rocket science involved. :)

It may be as simple as adjust ing the rods that actuate the mechenism, or it may be that you need to replace the assembly.
Try cleaning and lubricating it first, Once you do get it open, tighten any attaching bolts and / or screws. Then you need to do a visual inspection to see if the rods are moving far enough.
