The code P1408 is no egr flow sensed, It may be that this code is tied to the O2 code P1138, check the egr flow by manully pulling the vlave open with your fingers, the engine will run really bad or stall, if it does'nt the egr passages are plugged with carbon and will need to be cleared, locate the underhood emissions ticker, it will show the location of the EGR valve. Repair the EGR fault first, disconnect the battery for 5 minutes minumiun and then drive it for a few days to see if codes return.

Its always a good idea to double check codes especially with sensors, if its the heater circut replace o2 if its out of range reset and see if returns

I have p 1121 and a P 0401 codes on my 1998 ford windstar. are these related? what can I check? replaced the mass airflow sensor recently.

Are there any cracks in the rubber hose from air cleaner to throttle body ! That could cause the P1121 air entering after mass air flow sensor !
P1121 - Throttle Position (TP) Sensor Inconsistent with MAF Sensor The PCM monitors a vehicle operation rationality check by comparing sensed throttle position to mass air flow readings. If during key ON engine running self-test the comparison of the TP sensor and MAF sensor readings are not consistent with calibrated load values, the test fails and a diagnostic trouble code is stored in continuous memory.

Code p0156,p1131,p115,p0156 on my 2000 Ford taurus


P0156 - Problem with 0/2 circuit for downstream sensor of the front bank.
P1131 - Low activity of the upstream sensor for bank one. (rear)
P0115 - Problem with circuit for coolant temp sensor.

Just because you have codes for these sensors doesn't mean the sensor is the reason. The code merely tells you there is an issue in the circuit that needs to be troubleshooted accurately.

My 95 eclipse is throwing codes 12, 31, 43, and 55 what do these codes mean?


12-cam shaft position Timing over retarded
31- HO2S heater Control Circuit Low (Needs a new O2 Sensor is what this is telling you)
43- HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 1 Sensor 3)
55- HO2S Heater Resistance (Bank 1, Sensor 3)
All of those assume they are supposed to be preceded by a P00

If you are getting ODBI codes these are teh definitions you are looking for:
Code 12 Air flow sensor fault
Code 31 Knock sensor fault
Code 43 EGR fault
Code 55 AV valve position sensor

These may make more sense with that year model.

My 2002 grand marquis is using more gas than normal. auto zone read out listed codes p1132 & p1152 and indicated several probable causes for p1132 -1. leaking fuel injector bank 1, and 2. EGR stuck...


P1132 --Lack of HO2S-11 Switch (Lean)
P1152 -Lack of HO2S-21 Switch (Rich)

You do not guess

You test or try things that do not involve money
or parts

Disconnect & Plug the vacuum hoses to EGR Valve
and test drive

Check for vacuum leaks,including the EVAP System.

You do not have leaking injectors or a bad pressure
regulator.

If you have a vacuum leak it would lean out the
exhaust gases & the O2 Sensor would sense that
& tell the PCM to increase injector pulse width,thus you
go rich,then lean etc.

Stay calm & use logic. No big deal.

If the egr was stuck open it wouldn't idle very well.
Still could be bad.

I have a scan tool that says my egr valve system not ready on my Ford f150 5.4 and my catylist reads not ready how can I fix this problem


ABout EGR codes, there are alot choive to look or diagnostic... are you chec or replace the vacuum lines as well? If there is a leak, the DPFE will read incorrectly.

Did you reset the PCM or disconnect the battery after the repair? Assuming all fuses are good, the P1401 indicates a possible wiring fault. Check the connector. Is it clean? Is it pushed in all the way? Are the wires in good condition?

Since the DPFE has been replaced, likely there is a restriction in the EGR line some where. This could also be a bad EGR valve. But first ensure that the EGR valve vacuum line is attached and leak free.

If no problem found, then the EGR passageways in the throttle body should be cleaned. Carbon will build up and block the EGR flow.

If still no problem found, consider replacing the EGR valve.

Keep in mind this information from Ford Service CD...

P0401 - EGR Flow Insufficient Detected
The EGR system is monitored during steady state driving conditions while the EGR is commanded on. The test fails when the signal from the DPF EGR sensor indicates that EGR flow is less than the desired minimum.

P1401 - DPF EGR Sensor Circuit High Voltage Detected
The EGR monitor checks the DPF EGR sensor signal to the PCM for high voltage. The test fails when the average voltage to the PCM goes to a voltage greater than the maximum calibrated value.
DPF EGR circuit open
VREF short to PWR
Damaged DPF EGR sensor
DPFEGR circuit short to PWR
SIG RTN circuit open
Damaged PCM

A DPF EGR PID reading greater than 4.5 volts with the key ON and engine OFF or running, indicates a hard fault.

DTC P1151 - Lack of HO2S-21 Switch, Sensor Indicates Lean

A Heated Exhaust Oxygen (HO2S) sensor indicating lean at the end of a test is trying to correct for an over-rich condition. The test fails when the fuel control system no longer detects switching for a calibrated amount of time.

Symptoms: You will likely not notice any drivability problems.

Causes: A code P1151 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Electrical:
* Short to VPWR in the harness or HO2S
* Water in the harness connector
* Open/shorted HO2S circuit
* Corrosion or poor mating terminals and wiring
* Damaged HO2S
* Damaged PCM

Fuel System:
* Excessive fuel pressure
Leaking/contaminated fuel injectors
Leaking fuel pressure regulator
Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel
Vapor recovery system

Induction System:
* Air leaks after the MAF
* Vacuum Leaks

PCV system:
* Improperly seated engine oil dipstick

EGR System:
* Leaking gasket
* Stuck EGR valve
* Leaking diaphragm or EVR

Base Engine:
* Oil overfill
* Cam Timing
* Cylinder compression
* Exhaust leaks before or near the HO2S(s)

Possible Solutions: See the above list of causes and go from there.

Insufficient EGR Flow Detected

Possible Causes:
DPFE sensor signal circuit is shorted to ground
DPFE sensor VREF circuit is open between sensor and PCM
DPFE sensor downstream hose off or plugged
DPFE sensor hoses both off, loose or damaged
DPFE sensor hoses connected wrong (reversed)
EGR orifice tube is damaged or restricted
PCM has failed
And what sets the code is…….Engine started, engine running in closed loop under steady cruise conditions, and the PCM detected the DPFE sensor input indicated insufficient EGR gas flow. Run the KOER Self-Test, and if DTC P1408 is present, the fault is currently present. This code sets in 2 Trip(s). The light will stay on until the cause is repaired. A bad EGR valve is only on possible cause.
