Check engine soon light

I have owned a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 pickup for less than a year and I don't have a owners manual. My check engine soon light came on yesterday. What should I do? Thanks.

Call or check with an Auto Part store to see if they have the Scan tool and code book. Check to see if you have any codes that flash. There may be a fault (there are many things that can show up).
If there is no faults showing or if you had your truck worked on the mechanic might not have reset the the sensor.
(From the book)
To clear the codes from the Electronic Control Module (ECM)/
Power-train Control Module (PCM) memory on 1994 and later models, install the SCAN tool, scroll the menu for the function that describes "CLEARING CODES" and follow the prescribed method for that particular SCAN tool or momentarily remove the ECM/ING fuse from the fuse box for 30 seconds.
Clearing codes may also be accomplished by removing the fusible link (main power fuse) located near the battery positive terminal or by disconnecting the cable from the positive terminal (+) of the battery.

What year engines will interchange with a 1997 s10

The 2.2L engine is fairly universal. You may need to use the original crankshaft position sensor, however. The 96 had a different connector than the 97 engines had. You should not have too much trouble swapping out this engine. Chevrolet is really good about not changing too many items for each year.

Service engine soon light is on and my car work with nomality, what could it be. thanks.

computer has detected a fault. May not have symptoms but could affect gas mileage, etc. A scan of the OBD II system will provide trouble codes we can use to help you diagnose the issue.

Service engine soon light.

Hi:
There are hundreds of things that trip that light. You need to have your vehicle codes scanned to see what has caused it. Most auto parts stores will do this for free. It could be something as simple as a loose gas cap, but this is an easy way to figure it out!

Service engine light on dash 1999 s-10 pickup

sir, service engine soon is your emissions light malfunction indicator, meaning your car will not pass a smog test. It will not pass inspection in most places either. It can't be reset and stay off till the problem is fixed. Any auto parts store can retrieve the code for you and most like Autozone do it for free, Most common reason for the service engine soon light tends to be an oxygen sensor. But with the code it will lead you to the problem. Hope this helps.

SERVICE ENGINE SOON

The codes all have to be cleared by using a scanner but if the reason the light was on has not been fixed the light will just come back on. If the problem has been fixed the light will go out on it's own after 25 warmup/cooldown cycles. Autozone will read the codes for you free of charge but they will not clear the codes to shut the light off. You either need to buy a scanner or take it to someone who has one. Good luck
