Hi,when my clutch pedal is released on my mitsubishi space star there is a loud rumbling/grinding noise throughout the gears, when pedal is pressed down the noise goes away, the clutch is not slipping and it responds well to hills and acceleration, ive tried setting off in 2nd gear with handbrake on and the car stalls out, could it be thrust bearing or worse? many regards Andy

I have a manual 1995 honda civic ex it starts fine but the gears grind and have to be shoved into gear when i try to drive making a loud grinding noise...what does this mean?

it could mean that the clutch isn't disengaging when you push the clutch pedal in, it may just need to be adjusted or the clutch plate may be sticking or it may need replacing, try adjusting the clutch first.....hope this helps......cheers.

I have a 2004 sunfire, it is a standard. when i switch from 3rd gear to 4th it makes a loud grind sound. it drives okay other than that, but what do you think it could be?

Does this noise only happen when switching between these two gears ? Also need to know how much play you have in the clutch pedal (push down on pedal, how far does it go down--free play?? plus when you release the pedal how far from the floor does it star to engauge ??) need to know these questions first before i can answer your question..ok..

I have a 1996 Mitsubishi Galant S with a manual transmission and when i step on the gas pedal in first gear the car doesnt move. When I put the car in reverse, it doesnt move. Prior to this happening my...

For a manual transmission, this means your clutch has completely failed. The loud noise was likely not a belt, but the cluch release bearing. I'll bet this was a screeching noise that reduced or stopped when the clutch pedal was depressed.

You'll need a new replacement pressure plate, driven plate, release bearing and anything else that is found to be worn out when the the transmission is removed to do the job. A garage would need 4-6 hours labour to do this.

Hi my rx8 is makin a grinding noise from the gearbox and the noise goes away wen foot is pressed on the clutch makes a noise wen drivin in 1st 2nd 3rd n 4th gear noise goes in 5th and the noise is there in...

What?! Really! The noise goes when the clutch pedal is depressed! So the noise goes when the release bearing (throw-out bearing) is engage? So how would that be a release bearing/clutch problem? If it didn't make a noise until the clutch pedal was depressed, it would be the release bearing! In other words its the input shaft bearing and/or counter shaft bearing in the gearbox. Clutch want catch any gears

If your clutch won't release properly, it will continue to turn the input shaft. This can cause grinding, or completely prevent your car from going into gear. Some common reasons a clutch may stick are:
  • Broken or stretched clutch cable - The cable needs the right amount of tension to push and pull effectively.
  • Leaky or defective slave and/or master clutch cylinders - Leaks keep the cylinders from building the necessary amount of pressure.
  • Air in the hydraulic line - Air affects the hydraulics by taking up space the fluid needs to build pressure.
  • Misadjusted linkage - When your foot hits the pedal, the linkage transmits the wrong amount of force.
  • Mismatched clutch components - Not all aftermarket parts work with your clutch.
Another problem associated with clutches is a worn throw-out bearing, sometimes called a clutch release bearing. This bearing applies force to the fingers of the spinning pressure plate to release the clutch. If you hear a rumbling sound when the clutch engages, you might have a problem with the throw-out.

Grinding Noise When Clutch Is Depressed, Lights Flicker

you may need to have your clutch cable adjusted ... it is most likely not releasing the clutch fully and grinding against the flywheel

Getting harder and harder to place into gear. Also, when the clutch is disengaged (pedal down), I will hear a louder noise, sounds like something is rubbing on something

It seems like the clutch pressure plate has gone, not releasing the clutch plate once the pedal is operated.
The noise you hear, is it a screeching one or is it like the gears rubbing eachother.
If its a screeching noise thn its the release bearing and if its a heavier grinding noise thn its the gears.
Guess you will have to replace the clutch pressure plate, its highly recomended though to replace the pro-kit,i.e the clutch plate, pressure plate and the release bearing.
Good luck.
