Not sure what you mean. If you mean ignition timing, you'll need to have a look at the shaft on the distributor. You may need a new bearing or distributor. If the engine has over 100K...you may also have timing chain issues. If the engine has points, change them and use a new condenser.

Thanks Bob. Yes I did mean ignition timing. Your response makes a lot of sense. The timing has been adjusted a few times now via repositioning of the distributor, however after everything is working fine, in a mater of a few days while driving the timing will go out. The engine was rebuilt with in the last two years, so I do not believe that it is a timing chain issue, I was thinking that maybe a tooth on the sprocket of the distributor shaft may have broken, but what you suggest is probably accurate.
