One of my keys stoped working for remote lock/unlock function.
But it still works for every other purpose.
Do I need to replace battery? If so, how to do it?
I have been using both keys and it is to be charged while drive according to owner's manual. Please help
Check when you put it in the ignition that the key is in fully whilst you drive.
The little silver nob on the key needs to make connection with the circle chrome around the ignition.
This is how it charges and the door lock/unlock uses a bit of power hence why it probably not working but works with every other purpose.

I have a e60 525i that I just brought and it has the same problem, the owners manual suggests driving with the key in the ignition for a long time as the batteries are rechargable and may have gone flat, i have tried this and it doesnt seem to work
i also read something about getting water in the aerial about the rear window and that wrecks the receiever. My car isn;t under warranty so not looking forwarding to taking it to bmw
SOURCE: Central Locking not working
Hi Craig,
I'm running a E34 Tds Touring with a similar problem, my rear doors and tailgate have dropped of the central locking circuit.
I have been told it is the Central locking Module a large black box under the dash that is faulty, apparently a common problem.
Hope this points you in the right direction,
Please remember to rate my effort!

try locking and unlocking the car with the key 3 times slowly ,other than that i have no idea ?? another trick is to disconnect battery and join the cables together for a few minutes to discharge any capacitors that may be holding a charge in the computer..Only other thing i can think of is the main dealers who have the right connectors and software to re set it all .sorry i havent been of any help

I also have a 2003 5 series, but I only have one key and the dealer wants $250 to replace the whole key - says they can't replace the battery on this particular model. I find that hard to believe. Has anyone been able to just get the battery replaced?
How do you change the battery in a 2003 MBW 325i key fob
