1097 GMC Jimmy , transmisson try to start off in high gear when you put it in D or overdrive. the code from the check Eng-Light say Tork-converter Senol voltage is low or missing. sometime the gas gague just jump all over the place. you can clean the wire connecters under the hood and on the driver opf the Trans., which will help but the problem will come back. Now let get down for bussiness. There are two small gound cables that comes from the main ground cable on the Batt., one small cable goes to fram the other one mount beside the Rataltor, cut replace or clean and solder. Take the Transmisson fues out and clean it with a pocket knife, make yourself feel real good and clean all fuses one at a time. The last and the hardest then again you don't have to take the whole bottom of the dash out like I did because I was looking for the selnol on the steeren colum. take the two screws from bottom of the streem wheel close by the key it is right beside the Key ing., one inch or so They used some kind of gel that have gotton hard you can put your foot or some one else turn the swtich on and play with the buttom on the gear shift you should hear the selinol by the key making a clicking nosie, which is normal.spray it down with some WD-40 or something.make sure you put towl to catch the waste, after it have set for 25 or 35 minutes used type of soft lub such as white litum grease. If this don;t do the job replace the selnoil in the bottom of the trans.
I hope to Jesus, that I have saved you all $400.00 or $700.00 apice.
Please let me know if this Info. helped anyone. God Bless!

Shifting high rpm

its a 5sp manual. only manuals have 5th.
your RPM is wrong, it has 1 extra zero.
correcting that (the dial shows x1000) so
3.2 is 3200 (3.2x1000=
this is normal stock car, , its not a V8. or a diesel, at all.

Does Shift solenoid A&B control shifting into 5th gear on an automatic transmission?

First check the transmission MIL code , that will tell you if it is the Over Drive lock solenoid mal functioning , Do a tranny oil change with filter ,then replace fifth gear pressure solenoid , when you are there already .

Can i shift the gear immediately while climbing on a high roads from high speed to low speed on a automatic transmission 1996 honda civic vti vtec? Do i need to brake first the engine before i will shift...

That is not recommended, as it could cause transmission damage. Since you have a VTEC you should get a power boost at around 5000 rpm which should make climbing hills easier and not need a shift of the transmission.

DEFINITE LURCH IN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR,

This may apply. ...............................

Carry out the adaptation drive cycle road test:

Note: This process must be carried out in normal mode (not sports mode). On a flat road, the transmission fluid temperature must be above 60° C (140° f) and below 100° C (212° f) (vehicle at normal operating temperature will ensure that the transmission fluid temperature is above 60° C (140° f)).
9. Accelerate from rest with light throttle (do not exceed the upper rev limit in appendix 1). 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 shifts must occur with engine speed between the following limits:.
Note: Do not move the accelerator pedal during shifts.

• 3.0L VIN ALL 1800 - 2000 rpm
• 4.2L N/A Prior VIN M96321 1450 - 1600 rpm
• 4.2L N/A From VIN M963221550 - 1700 rpm

10. Continue to accelerate gently to 50 mph (80 km/h) so that transmission shifts into 5th gear.
11. Go into overrun and let the transmission shift down into 4th gear without braking.
12. Brake gently to a standstill and hold footbrake on for at least 15 seconds.
13. This process should be carried out at least five times.

Stick shift # Automatic RPM

That is normal,If you do the same speed in 4th gear the rpm's will almost double.

The rpm's will repond faster in a manual than an automatic.

In a manual the engine supplies the power required directly to the gear that you have selected thus the engine rpm's will increase or decrease as needed.
