My 1994 Cadillac Seville is running excessively rich.

I guess my first question would be, is the check engine light on ?
If the fuel system is too rich the O2 sensors should be reporting that to the computer. There could be a trouble code that would point you in the direction of the problem.
Otherwise, it could be a weak injector, or a wiring problem that is keeping one or more injectors grounded.
Are all of the spark plugs fuel fouled ?
No problems with the air filter and intake ?

1994 Lincoln continental runs rich

Is the check engine light on ?
How do you know it is running rich ?
Could be a faulty fuel pressure regulator, injector, O2 sensor, engine temp sensor, or other component.

DTC P0172 - P0172 Fuel Trim System Rich Bank 1... this indicates that the fuel mixture is too rich, but you already know it is running rich.

A rich fuel mixture can be caused by a number of things First, I would suggest checking fuel pressure to make sure it is within normal specs If fuel pressure is too high due to a faulty pressure regulator for example, it will cause too much fuel to be entering the engine.

A leaking fuel injector can cause a rich fuel mixture, as can an injector that is stuck in the open position. When the engine is shut off, monitor fuel pressure with a fuel pressur gauge; it should remain steady. If fuel presure drops when the engine is off, then removing the fuel rail and injectors while still connected to the lines to visually check for a dripping injector may be informative.

There are several engine control system problems that can cause a rich fuel mixture; if you can obtain a scan tool that is capable of displaying live engine data you can check for these possible causes:

1) Low MAP reading; this can be due to a fault in the MAP sensor, MAP circuit, or as a result of low engine vacuum due to a restricted exhaust, jumped timing belt, or low compression on one or more cylinders caused by valve leakage or a leaking head gasket. Compression testing the engine may reveal internal mechanical problems of this type that would cause low engine vacuum. A low engine vacuum reading from the MAP makes the computer think the engine is under heavy load such as during acceleration, so it commands a rich fuel mixture in response. A vacuum leak can also result in a rich mixture for the same reason.

2) Low coolant temperature signal. This can be caused by a fault in the coolant temperature sensor circuit, faulty coolant temperature sensor, low engine coolant level, or a faulty thermostat that is allowing the engine to run too cold.

Keep us updated.

Running rich, smelling rich

You may have a bad fuel injector or in need of a tune up badly. The early fuel injection (throttle body) had a single fuel injector that would clog and not spray fuel in a mist but would dump fuel. Does it run rough at idle? That is a good indicator. Some are rebuildable but I would suggest replacement. If you have not had a tune up in a while that should be done too.

VW Golf MK3 wont start

fuel relay could be faulty. i think its number 30 or 167 in the fuse box under the driver side steering. it could also be the fuel pump or connector on the fuel pump under the black metal plate under your trunk carpet. you could try manually throwing in fuel into the intake to make sure its not your car's ecu or ignition system. if it starts and stays running it could be what took me a few months to discover after i had intermittent problems. there a small vacuum hose from the fifth injector on a 1997 mk3 gti (4 cylinder) that connects to the injector rail. i think its some kind of activation for the electronic injectors. my pipe was broken and i just cut it and my car hasnt been better since! i know this is an old question but i hope it helps someone out there!
