Repair the code issue, because your Villager has OBD-II which is a very helpful Diagnostic system. Upvote (4) ... My 1999 Villager was running poorly; rough idle, lack of power at highway speeds and the engine problem light indicated random miss-fire, etc. I had new spark ... Have code po306 cylinder 6 misfire detected.
So, first off thanks for your input. Now, my question is, would bad ignition wires be a possibility? I replaced the original ignition wires with a set that I put together from hi quality Mallory 8.5 mil wires.
The problem I discovered after putting the wire set together was that the center core wire seems to snap when you bend it over to install the terminal ends. After finishing the wire set, installing, and firing up the engine, I noticed two cylinders not firing. I first thought it was a faulty ignition coil. Cylinders one and four fired fine. Two and three did not, which are on same half of coil. I still think that the wires have a break in the core wire, which would cause a misfire? I may try to fix the break in the core or just buy a replacement set of wires.
Now, car is running great but, check engine light is on. After pulling code PO420, it seems to be related to " catalyst efficiency low-bank 1". OBD II scanner explains: " The oxygen sensors monitor the catalytic converters ability to store oxygen." Then OBD II lists probable causes, as follows:
#1 Catalytic converter defective due to #2 #3 or #4.
#2 Engine misfire or running condition
#3 Large vacuum leak
#4 Engine oil leakage into exhaust-valve guide seals, piston rings.
Car runs great but check engine light remains on.
