I have the same problem as Rick- 2002 S-Type - won't start sometimes... battery drains. My car has been serviced more than 20 times in three years. When the problem first began, it would be a month to six or seven weeks before it happened again. Now it happens every three or three and a half weeks. sometimes I have the car back only one week and it happens again. Two weeks ago, it failed to start three days in a row and one day I had to charge the battery twice!! Very frustrating. Service Department personnel are baffled. They have replaced batteries, door modules, grounded the wires near the fuel tank, kept it from two to three weeks at a time testing and driving it (adding mileage and using my fuel) and I don't know what else. I would certainly appreciate some help. I had intended this to be the last car that I purchased (retired from work) now I just don't know.

I have a 2000 S type and have a similar problem. Occasionaly the battery will drain overnight. The battery is about 2.5 years old and from the dearlership. I've had it checked and there doesn't seem to be a problem with the battery but something is causing it to drain. I thought it might be the radio as it sometimes didn't shut off properly when I turned off the ignition. However I now turn off the radio manually and still have the problem. Ideas anyone

Two ways the the battery was the problem:
1. It was not the right voltage battery installed.
2. It was a faulty battery...which is very possible.
As of right now, you Sonata runs, correct?

Just shut off the care returned 2 hours later no go got a boost went for a drive left the car running for awhile than it start to get like it was going to stall went on g=for a littlwe while than died....

Hi your problem sounds like the battery is gone and won`t take a charge. When your engine is running the alternator is supplying the electrical power to run the car ( and normally charging the
battery as well )
Even though it seems strange for the battery to go suddenly, it does happen.
How old is the bat. Most last about 5 years with normal driving ( batterys last longer if the car is used every day )
Anyway i hope i have been of some help to you.

The battery keeps dying after a period of time

you will need to put a volt meter across the battery terminals.
just over 12v engine stopped.
13.5-14v engine running.
if you get the 13.5 then the car is charging.
batteries sometimes only last 1-2 years, so if it is older than 2 years, that may be the only problem

My '99 Ford wagon has been dying in idle for 7 months. Now it won't start, clicks when I turn key but won't start. I've noticed the "theft" light has been on for about 2 weeks when I'm driving, no idea...

Sounds like the anti theft system might need to be reprogramed. Anti theft will shut the car down and will not let it turn over and will cause the car to cut out. Also sounds like you need an alternator. Sounds like the probelms are related. You need to have the computer scanned and get the codes so you can have a better idea of what the problem is.

If the ALTERNATOR Has Been Tested And Ruled out From "FUUL-FIELDING: < Overcharging Constantly. Then I Would Try A Load Draw Test on It This is Done with a TESTLIGHT Screwdriver Looking type.
Tace Ground Cable Off The Battery , Clip end of
Test Light on NEGATIVE CABLE Poker On Batt. Neg. IF it Lights Up then You DO have A Battery DRAW In the ELECTRICAL System Next Is--Then HAVE A Helper At the Fuse Box Have Helper take out Fuese 1 at a time reinstalling them As You Go Whatching for TEST Light to go OFF When it DOES you have Found the Curciut tha is DRAWING Battery Down then you look for the Component 's in that Curciut for the root of the problem. I Hopes this hel[s you With Your Battery Problem INPUT or OUTPUT IS WHATS Doing this to your battery. IN ULL The ABOVE Im Asuming Tue Battery'''s Have Been Properly tested and Determined to be BAD

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Alternator issues?

have the alternator regulator and diodes tested. sometimes when the regulators fail they allow ac voltage to go to the battery. ac voltage doesn't charge the battery properly (causes it to deep cycle and shortens its life) and causes all sorts of funny problems with the car. also make sure the battery is secured properly, vibration isn't good for them at all.
